03 ST would not start

thought my sons ST's fuel pump went bad due to not changing the fuel filter---wrong---- found the switch under the passenger side foot well was intermittently making contact ,causing the fuel pump to stop working. taking the connector to the switch apart it showed sign of overheating. We cut the 2 wires ,shorted the wires with a butt splice and car is running and starting fine-

it's only for when you get in a crash and fuel is spilling out evrywhere and there is a greater chance of catching on fire.
