Digicams aren't really that expensive now.
I have a high dollar one for serious shoots and a small, inexpensive one to carry with me all the time.
You can get a 5 megapixel, 3x zoom for $99 on sale.
Sure, you can go for 8 or 12 megapixel and 10x zoom with high quality glass optics, but why, unless you're a pro?
I defy anyone here to tell the difference between a shot taken with my 5MP and my 12MP. Unless you make an enlargement the size of a building, it's just not that critical, especially in daylight shooting.
