I got this from another post here:

[Broken External Image]:

I see no reason why those rear window pillars would be there other than to serve a power window. Otherwise, it'd just be a single piece window right?

Better yet here's a link to another one of Brian's posts:

The only carry-over part from the old ST is the power down rear window. It is THE SAME PART. I had to make it fit...

The high mounted stop lamp, tail gate, and TIE DOWNS are right off the F-150 sport side.

The rear spoiler was very close to not making production! You should see how they have to pull the part off the tool... it is die locked. The red vehicle above is not the same one that is in Texas - the one in Texas is a different shade of red and has my white plate with ford oval on it...

Funny, but the safety issue with the power down window - well it might be true, I didn't know about it - I heard it first right here on this forum! Funny but I learn a lot about my own job from this site! We had a non-power window for the still born XL version, perhaps that will be used for job1? I have little to do with VO now that we are post CP.

Tom,

_________! We showed Concept ST before VW showed Jetta.

X, I'm curious as to whar the unique parts content percentage is compared to the old one. I can see the frame, cab, rear doors and bed are unique, but what about the rest? Just how many parts are shared with other models?

Under the skin, I don't know all that we share with other FoMoCo vehicles. But I am almost certain that nothing from old ST except, as I said, backlite is P207(old ST), tie-downs, tail gate, CHMSL are from F-150. Tail lamps are NEW - not from F-150. Roof rack is new but comes from same extrusion die as on new Explorer - just cut off shorter and has unique end caps. Running boards are new... 18" wheels are unique to ST. ST will not have the small bit of bodyside molding on the front fender - Explorer does have it - it is a long story...

Interior, well, we did get a rubber floor... :) panel behind rear seats is new (with mongo huge subwoofer).

I think I am safe to talk about this now that vehicle is out in public...

I guess that it is pretty clear what B-pillar forward and interior are...

Hi X. Are you saying that contrary to what is shown in the new 07 pictures, the new ST will not have the "lip" around the front fenders?

When a marketing survey was done back in the late '90s, people were asked,

"Would you pay upwards of $30,000 for a Ford Ranger with four doors?".

Most persons surveyed said "No!"

The question was posed later as, "Would you pay upwards of $30,000 for a

Ford Explorer with this cool (sic) pick-up bed on the back?".

It was recieved as an almost overwhelming "YES!".

Thus, our Sport Tracs were conceived!!!

x,

In my 20 plus years with General Motors, I have sat in on a few R and D

sessions, and Customer Feedback Clinics, myself.

I heard this story related to us from a member of our latest CFC to review

input on G.M.'s latest "Kappa" Platform Project (K-T375) as we call it.

Wait till you see this one!!!:D

How similar is "Kappa" to the Elise? The Solstice is a "kappa", but the Vauxhall/Opel speedsters are Elise based, and coming to America as the front-engined Saturn Sky, which I thought was based on the Solstice. All I know is that the turbo Solstice should be fun....

So whats the deal?

Roll down rear window on the initial release or not!?!?!?!

JohnnyB, I really do not know. I sit in on the AST meetings every week but no one has said anything about it. If there is a problem I am sure it will be fixed fast because we all know how important that item is!

Flip, we do get the wheel lip molding - we do not get the 3" long rub molding on the front fender - it is an extension of the door moldings that should run onto the fender. Most folks would never notice - but some may think something is missing on their ST if they look at the 06 Explorer. The Texas vehicle is accurate.

hehe, I have NO IDEA who that guy standing next to the trac is.

hmm, I'm still pretty undecided about this new 'Trac. It almost looks like they're trying to make it a luxury vehicle on the outside. I do NOT want a mini-luxury-truck. I bought the 'Trac because it does everything...I can take it out in the mud, I can beat virtually any other truck off the line, it's easy to keep clean with those rubber floor mats, the bed has precisely enough room for me to haul anything I need to haul, but it isn't overkill like a full-size truck, AND I get great gas mileage.

I love the V8 option. I think they should have done that to begin with in 2001. I do NOT like the "chrome" front grill. If Ford moves from the sport utility truck to the luxury truck, I don't think sales will be very brisk. Like most of you, I need to see it in person. I loved the SVT version from the second I saw it. It has a great stance and it's got an awesome look with no "chrome".

No roll-down back window would absolutely be a deal-breaker for me. That's one of the things I love about my 'Trac. It's also funny to let my puppy (180 pound rottweiler) stick his head out of the window and bark at people. Any kids in the car(s) behind me absolutely love it. I really don't think I could buy a 'Trac without a roll-down back glass.

It's really cool that they're able to take half the bed cover off, I love that "feature".

FORD...LOSE THE "CHROME"!!

I like this version a lot more than the Adrenaline version, and I would consider trading in my 2001 for one, but they need to lose the chrome grille. Other than that, the rear window HAS to go down, as I too keep dogs in the back seat area, and the gas cap needs to go back to the driver's side. (although I know that's easier said than done.) I'll need to look at 'em some more to see how it 'stacks up'... but I like it so far!

I like design of the new ST and the Gas Cap on the Right side. I don't know about your particular area but the lines at the gas stations here in San Diego are always long for the left-hand side pumps. The right-hand side pumps are usually clear or a short wait. The stations here also like to put those tall metal crash poles at the end of the pump island and I always have to watch out when opening the door so as not to ding my door on it.

"Unique interior door-release handles are another innovation found in the interior, ergonomically designed to the shape of the human hand at rest." I like to see a picture of this, anyone have a link or a pic from the meet?

It may look luxurious, but why should that stop you from treating and using it like a work truck? You gotta remember that the ST is supposed to be a descendant of the Explorer SUV and as such adapts some of its luxury.

I saw the chrome grills off of an 06 Explorer at the dealer and honestly I like the previous version better. The new grill is loud and bold and will take time for me to get used to. As for the 07 not having a power rear window; this would be a major step back.

Hey x,

do you have an X Plan that I could use in March when the '07 comes out?

I am in the high 90% range that I will be trading in my '01. Feel free to email me:

THANKS!

I don't get it--if the line is long on one side, why not just drive around and enter on the other side?

Here in Minnesota, putting the gas filler on the right side means walking around the truck to get to it--which means a few more unnecessary seconds in -30 temperatures. Not to mention extra slopping through the slippery muck that invariably is 8 inches deep at gas stations in the winter, and all the more opportunity to bang your shin on your trailer hitch if you forgot to disconnect it last time you used it. :)

IMO, not too bad overall, and that's about the best I can say for it. Not different enough from the garden variety Explorer to interest me. And just because I'm over 50, that doesn't mean that I want a front end full of chrome! YUCK! That alone will keep me from buying a new ST. And IRS on a truck? (If IRS is so great, why are Mustang Cobra owners replacing theirs with solid axles? Oh yeah -- better handling!)

Unless I can afford the Adrenalin -- which I doubt! -- I guess this will be my last ST.
