Stern’s biggest concern with the Sport Trac? New car fever.

“I absolutely love my Sport Trac. It’s done everything I hoped it would, and I don’t see any need to replace it. Then again, if the new Sport Trac is as big a jump in refinement as the Explorer was from the 2000 to the 2002 model, I’m going to have serious case of the new-car jitters.”

Be afraid, be very afraid...:p

More info...

The more I see it and read about it, the more I'm starting to like it and get a case of Rich's "new car fever"... Yikes!:D

Hi from Dallas.

I'm gonna try really hard to hang onto my checkbook, but I gotta tell ya, it won't be easy. The new ST is really impressive. The interior is F150-like. The underpinnings have the suspension-through porthole setup that makes the Explorer ride so well. Big upgrade in towing capacity, too. I think I heard the number 6800 pounds. Also, 18" tires. The exterior is more refined. I suspect wind and road noise will be dramatically reduced.

My favorite thing? The bed has three built in compartsments to hold stuff like tools, supplies, etc., or they work as an ice cooler (they have drains!)

Pictures coming as soon as we can manage to upload them. Ford did a nice job on the media event. We get another crack at them tomorrow when they host our group.

lasik1,

I wanted yellow, we did the in-house property in screaming yellow, but our color and materials group dropped it in favor of (uh hummm) ORANGE! #$$%#*($^!!

Actually, according to the National Highway/Transportation Safety Administration, YELLOW is the safest color of vehicle to drive. ;)

However, I do love the Orange too. I own a Zinc Yellow 'Trac, but when I saw orange, it certainly made me do a double take. I think Ford should offer both, even if it costs a few more bucks to get those colors. They're both great.

However, Chrome + Yellow and/or Chrome + Orange would probably look dumb. I'd rather see that grill on the front in black/grey. Black Chrome would really be sweet (someone mentioned that in another post and i thought that was a GREAT idea). I'm just not a big fan of Chrome, or simulated Chrome in this case.

Nice looking "truck"for sure, but a grocery getter just the same, no reasonable lifting possibilities with the independent rear suspension. Another Ford station wagon to match the rest of the Explorer line. JMO.

Ford... PLEASE make a 4 door Ranger, so I dont have to buy a Toyota
