$4000 Car?

My secretary needs a car and has $4K to spend. She wants a 4 door(3 kids) and will probably drive less than 1000 miles/month. I'm thinking of a Kia or Hyundai- a Corolla copy but cheaper. Any suggestions?

Get a good used one with less than 50K miles...try a site like autotrader that lets you put in your zipcode and sort by price, etc:

try to find an auto auction nearby...in 2005 my buddie got a 2004 ex-police car (crown vic) for $1k....the car had 10,000 miles on it and hadnt even seen service yet!!! it was still a baby

Yes- we have 2 dealers here so its tough. I went to see an ST at the Ford dealer, asked how much they could sell it for, they said "the price is on the window sticker".

I'd suggest a used SL2 or SW2 Saturn. The last year they were made was in 2002. They are great on gas (up to 38 on the highway and never below 25 MPG). They have plastic panels so there are no dings and dents that detract from its looks. Their engines are good for 200K and maintenence costs are low.
