4wd, Headlight and Rear Window Switch Bulbs…..Mission Impossible?

So I’ve tried the junkyard with no luck. Can’t seem to find any to buy without buying a new switch.

I brought up an old thread in the other section to see if a member who used to post is still around that made these. The project section has his project but it’s not completely showing since it was deleted.

Ive seen other people ask but no one seems to have been able to get some new ones.

Is there a source to buy these bulbs??? I’m not looking to make my own bulbs lol

I should also mention I’m in Canada. JKL doesn’t ship to Canada. You also have to buy in bulk. Apparently these are now considered obsolete but there is some stock left at JKL.

The above links should work for the Headlight switch and 4wd switch.

The closest I can find for the white base lights are buying new wire lead bulbs and wiring them in yourself and hope they work.

Those aren’t the right bulbs.

They were for the headlight and 4x4 switch on my 01. They fit in the little grey holder after i got the green boot off

Really? You pulled the bulb out of the grey housing and just plugged one of those in? I broke one trying and assumed it was one piece.

I just double checked my bulb housing, my grey holder you can’t pull the bulb out it’s part of the fixture. It’s got wire leads that go into the holder internally. I wish I coulda just put a new bulb in.

Doable, but... print in ABS or better. PLA will melt. ABS is tricky though, and toxic while printing. Might be able to use PETG as its heat resistance is close to ABS. Reinforced nylon may work but your nozzle best be up to the task.

You can replace just the bulb. I guess someone must have changed the bases in mine. I checked my old 4x4 switch and it was like yours.

Im wondering if mine got so toasted it melted itself into the holder. When I get home today I’ll look at another holder and see if it’s possible to get the bulb out without the holder getting wrecked.

Ill do some temp readings, but truthfully, i dont think a low power 3mm led will put off enough heat to melt pla.

Nah, it's not the heat from the LED that will be the problem, though it will contribute. The general heat soak of a spring day will cause PLA to warp and deform. Then, as summer creeps in, the PLA will likely totally fail, esspecially considering how thin-walled the holder will be. If you can't print ABS then try PETG, easy as PLA to print but with better heat handling. Reinforced nylon is pretty easy to print also but you need a hardened nozzle as the carbon, or glass, in the nylon will destroy a regular nozzle.

I’m gonna head to the pick n pull one more time this weekend. They got a few explorersin, 2002, 2003, 2008. Will do one more check for working bulbs and then I’ll try the store on EBay.

Im curious if I can make these work. It’s a 10.5mm base. The Ford one has a 10mm he said. Heights are negligible.

But as I look at my current bulbs, the base seems to be 10.5mm. So 10 or 10.5 makes no difference. Would much rather have the LED.

May still just pull the trigger anyway, you know, for science lol
