I have a 2001 trac, just used 4x4 last week and it worked fine, and then just yesterday driving up a snow and ice covered alley I could not get it to work. I had to back down the alley.

all fuses referring to 4x4 in the manual are all good (drivers compartment box)

did not see anything for the under the hood box that referred to 4x4

kind of at a loss???

could switch on dash be bad?

could I get a false reading from a fuse?

any help would be appreciated

thanks

A few common items are;

The module (which is mounted inside the cab).

The engaging motor.

Normally, if you hear clicking inside the cab the answer seems to be the module. Many here have had one or more fail.

If you think it is the motor, tap on it with a hammer while someone works the switch. It will normally work when being tapped on.

more than likely it is the module. like stated above, if you move the switch to 4x4 and it doesnt engage but hear clicking sounds. that is a symptom of a bad module. i have experienced that problem. i used to be able to tap on it and it would engage. then it just came on when it wanted to and when it did, it would come on 4x4 low when the switch was on 4x4 high. Now it doesn't come one or engage at all but i hear my clicking sound
