A freinds 1995 Ranger door windows stoped rolling down. First the pasenger. 6months later the driver door. You can hear a clicking sound from both motors. We havent pulled the panels yet.

We would like to get the parts first. Are the motors and gear box all one piece? I suspect the gears are striped. You can hear the motors running. He has over 200k miles on it. Still a good sound truck. He has the 4.0L pushrod motor,4 speed auto. Runs like a champ. Never had a major breakdown. He like us is going to drive it till it goes no more.

Just not sure what parts to have on hand when we pull the door panels.

Thanks...:)

I had a 1994 Ranger that I had bought brand new and owned up until I got my Sport Trac in 2007. I gave the Ranger to my dad and he is still driving it with around 220,000 miles on it! I would have kept it, but needed more room with 2 kids! The Ranger is what led me to buy the ST...never had a mechanical problem with it.

As for your window problem...I had to replace both motors as well back around 2004. I do some of my own work, but I took it to a local shop and had the motors replaced, after I took the door panel off, it looked like to much trouble to try myself. I believe it was all one piece.

The big thing to note is that some aftermarket parts that say they can be used with the Ranger are not powerful enough for the window. After I had the first window fixed it took forever for it to come up, I took it back in and they tried a different motor that worked fine.

At least that is what they told me! :)

It is one piece, but,,, you can buy the gear drive separately and replace it from the motor. The older Rangers had the stripped gear issues somewhat common.

I suggest pricing out the motor as well as I am betting the price is not too far off from each other, especially when you consider the time to replace the internal parts ONCE you do pull the motors..

easy to do. you can replace the gears or the whole motor. drill 3 holes, unplug the motor, drill three rivets. remove repair or replace.you will need three bolts, nuts and lock washers.

have fun!!

Yep.. Get a couple drive gears.. Most common problem, not hard to replace.

(Normally if the gear is bad you can hear the motor running however...)
