Anyone ever had an issue accessing a certain website?

I frequent a Audio Video forum (www.avsforum.com) on a daily basis.... All of sudden I am having an issue. The site will not work anymore... I get a Unable to display page error in IE.

I just put in a New Router so my first thought was it was something in the router.... I screwed around with the settings of the router for awhile... and still no luck.

So than I figured well if its teh router I should be able to do a direct connect to the Cable Modem with no Router and this should tell me if its the router causing the issue.... Still no luck... I get the issue can't display page error. Now I am stumped... as its no longer the router causing the issue...

So I ping the Website and get the Websites Ip Address... and if I enter the IP address in the IE Address field... The site now opens up.... So why when I use the IP address will IE allow me to access the web page.... But when using the Domain Name it will not?

I called my Internet Provider thinking maybe they changed something at there end over the week-end causing the issue... They tried the website and it worked fine for them...

Anyone have any ideas??? Oh and I don't have any other issues access other websites... So far just this one site.....

Ahhhh This Internet thing is going to Catch on Mark my words!

Cheers

Its not the Router!

If i have disconnected the router and done a direct connection to the Cable Modem and still have the same issue its not in the router.

Currently I am surfing the net directly connected to the Cable Modem.

Sounds like your service provider is maintaing it's DNS servers, they are typically regional. Maybe the one you use is being worked on or flaky?

Also, if it really bothers you, for the time being, add an entry for www.avsforum.com to your local hosts file. (windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts).

Not to go out on a limb here, but maybe the site is down, or completely shut down? It does happen from time to time. My "Favorites" folder is filled with sites that I can't get to anymore. There have been days that I could not get to this site.

Try again a day or two later. If you can connect to other sites with no problem, then it's probably not a problem with any of your hardware or internet settings.

So here is another wrinkle for you....

I took my Laptop to the office with me and I can access the Site no problems.... So again I know its My Home Internet that is causing the issue.

I have in the process deleted all Cookies and Temp files.

Again I am unable to Ping the domain name from a command prompt. But I had a friend pring it from there house and he provided me with the website IP address and that is how I am able to access it via the IP.

Ya I thought it was something at my ISP's end but when they said they could connect from there end... they were stumped also... So they have escalted the ticket and will get back to me... Just looking for feed back on other things I can try... in the mean time..

What will adding www.avsforum.com to the host file do for me?

Cheers

The problem is that your computer using the name servers of your ISP can't resolve www.avsforum.com to its IP address.

You know the IP address. Adding an entry in your host file maps the host name (www.avsforum.com) to the known, static IP address.

Open the hosts file with Notepad, it includes info on the format of each entry. This update should be done temporarily, remove it once the issue is fixed (which you won't know until you remove it). The local hosts file acts as a static name resolution service.

The fact that site worked for your ISP call center guys might just mean that they and you are using different name servers.

My message was in jest.

I understand the reasons Q was banned. Now if we can only find out what happened to R since he stomped off in a huff when we questioned him about the ST testing.

Then we can begin to look for S and T.
