Whit,

Even simpler than the hosts file: if you have a bookmark/favorite for avsforum, open the Properties of the bookmark and replace the "www.avsforum.com" in the URL with "216.66.21.33". If you don't have it bookmarked, go there by IP address, and then bookmark it.

While I won't claim to an IP MASTER,

I am a network manager at a University in California by profession... Multiple buildings, Multiple internet connections, Thousand+ of network nodes and users, Routers, 80+ wireless access points and network access control equipment. So I may be able to help you..

and i can do it without having a q-tude :)

Chris, please try the following at home

Click Start Button

Click Run

Type CMD to get a Command window

At the C:> prompt type

nslookup google.com

record the results and post here

then do the same for the site or sites that you are trying to get to.

it will responded with an ip address if it can resolve the site correctly

if it does more than likely it may be a browser or firewall configuration issue with the router.

If your default gateway is not configured and your dns settings are incorrect you will not get anywhere.

if you want to take this offline let me know...

Have a great night!

TNJ out lol :)

TNJ,

look in your IE explorer options/settings, see what level of privacy you are set on, try lowering it to low or medium....that fixed my problem once before

This is what i get for the avs forum site

can you get to it via entering the ip address?

for some reason your isp does not have it in their DNS servers listing?

Non-authoritative answer:

Name: avsforum.com

I have tried using the IP Address in IE and it works. But when I click on any other link on the site it won't work as its looking for the DNS name at that point.

The question is if the ISP can access the paje from their office... would that not mean its in the DNS?

If I add the IP address to my Host file will it allow me to access all the of the pages for the site?

Chris, contact your ISP and tell them exactly which DNS server of theirs is funky, and for which host (avsforum.com).

Yes, adding this to your hosts file is one work around that should work for all pages. Some have mentioned bookmarking the IP addressed URL, but that may not work well IF the website uses full links rather than relative links (in other words, if the website has pages that link back to the site and use the full path, rather than a relative path).

Yep, called the ISP back and it turns out there was a Gateway issue. I am now able to access everything.

Thanks for all the help....

Cheers

Whit
