I have a question for those of you who use aftermarket intake kits with reuseable filters. I have a Volant kit and when I apply to cleaning solvent and rinse the filter out, the filter still looks quite dark and dirty. Is this okay, or need I do more to clean it so that the filter media is cleaner and more white (before applying oil).

Thanks!

On another note, I've been careful not to over apply oil in the past, but I just saw a Volant vid on youtube showing this procedure. I was surprised how generous their application of the oil was compared to what I've been doing.

Forget the oil and just go with a pre filter cover, Never have to clean or oil the filter ever again !!!

I have wondered the same thing. I believe no matter how well you rinse the filter it will still have that dark look. After you apply the oil, it will look brand new again. The first time I did this I oversprayed it with too much oil. I had to let it sit for longer than estimated drying time. There was a puddle of oil underneath the filter. Like the video, generous amount should suffice.

Another option is a no oil "dry" filter. (Amsoil Ea, AFE Pro Dry S, AEM Dry Flow Hybrid, etc.)

I have ran cotton gauze type filters for years.

They get darker after time. If you research these types. They may retain some matter. That is why they turn dark after new oil.

This is not a problem. The stuuck on matter acctualy helps it filter better with age. Also despite the look. It will still flow better than paper. for life.

I was going to post a pic of my clean open ened K&N conical, After a couple of hundred miles.

For some reason my whole library is missing..

Thanks for the replies. I'm keeping the Volant filter for the life of it. It's still in good shape aside from the dark cotton. I cleaned it again and oiled it better, or rather, oiled it like shown in the Volant video. Sorry bout ur library Eddie. Thanks for the feedback.
