On the way home yesterday I see this car with green neon underbody lights on. As I get close I can see the person also has them on inside the car. I finally get close enough to figure out what the vehicle is....r and it's a Dodge Minivan! Lowered with spinners on. Rap music blaring and some kid with the front seat all lounged back with the front windows down. Must be really kewl to have your windows down when it's 29 degrees out and foggy...lol. He must of read my lips when I said...OMFGosh it's a Dodge Caravan...LOL

The other day I saw an 80's model, bone stock import hatchback with 'DUB' stickers. This ride was a bucket.

I believe these two instances fall under the category of: "ghetto fabulous."

edit: Oh, and on another day...I saw one of those old Mitsu mini buses, beat up, with 14" spinner hub caps. 8th wonder...

Last summer, Summit Racing has shows like "Truck Fest" and "Super Summit" to name a few.

There was this Dodge Caravan all pimped out, just like you described. Spinners, loud stereo, TV's, chrome "bling bling", neon, etc. The whole bit. I made my comments to Theresa about what I thought about it.

Walking back the same row, I noticed something that stoped me in my tracks and made me feel like a worthless pile of crap. A real reality check, so to speak.

The owner was a 20 something kid...in a wheel chair.

I almost cried. There I am walking on my own two feet making fun of a crippled person's ride.

No wonder why there was not seat in the drivers side. I honestly thought that was some kind of mod that you can remove the seat. I never noticed the hand controls for the gas and brake.

Another good one. There is a guy in Texas with a 1996 Escort GT with an automatic tranny. He did a 323 GTX BP turbo engine swap to it. None of us could understand why he was using an automatic tranny. He would just simply say he can't drive a stick shift car. We never thought anything of it. He posted pictures of the engine swap he did. We never put two and two together. Finally, he posted a pic of him next to his car. He, also, was in a wheel chair.

No wonder he can't drive a stick shift.

Here I am with two working leggs and I am too lazy, so to speak, to swap that GTR engine into my Escort GT.

I was at Hot Import Nights this past weekend and there was a Dodge Caravan that was bagged on 20's with 4 12in. subs in the back. Oddly enough it wasn't terrible but not my style. The work done on it was good though.

Caymen,

Why would you feel "like a worthless pile..." when you found out the owner of the van was "crippled"?

Guys in wheelchairs can build vehicles that you don't like the style of. It's okay to call it like you see it. Right?

What I am saying is here I am making fun of someones "ride" being that it is a Caravan and all coming to find out that I was making fun of a crippled person's ride.

IMO, it wasn't right for me to pass judgement without knowing the whole story.

Tom

I hear ya, but I still think if it's ugly or funny looking it doesn't matter if the owner has use of his legs or not. It is what it is.

I look at it this way. No use of your legs, you have a limited choice of vehicles. It is not like you can hop into an Explorer if you need your wheelchair as a drivers seat.

The guy was doing what any 20 year old kid would do. Pimp his ride. His happenes to be a Caravan because he is crippled. I just isn't right that anyone has to live like that.

Then to top it off, he is proud enough to show it off. That is something. I don't know if I were in his situation if I would, or even could (pride or what not), do that.

Tom

Caymen , You got my vote , you sound like a really desent person , I don't care what nobody say's about you , you got a heart . Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year .

Cayman,

I thought you were making fun of the way the van was modded, not the fact that it was a van.

I look at any vehicle as being capable of improvements through modification. Sometimes they are modded for the better and sometimes they look rediculous.

I'm was just saying that it's okay to judge a vehicle on what it looks like and not change your opinion based on the owner.

(And one thing is for sure, I would rather live without the use of my legs than be dead. And I wouldn't want to be pitied; just treated like anyone else.)

It's not a good idea to make fun of someone else's ride, or someone else, for that matter. You never know where they came from, or what they have been through. People used to make fun of my 1971 Ford sedan, until they found out they couldn't keep up with it. I might have preferred a Corvette or a Camaro, but I didn't fit in them very well, and I liked to be able to carry a few friends with me.

There was a guy I knew of who liked to pick up old Studebakers, just because he liked the look, and because he could usually get them for $50 or $100. Then he would drop in a turbocharged 350 Chevy and run in the 11's at the track. Everybody laughed when he pulled up to stage, but nobody was laughing at his car at the finish line. His priorities were different. He wanted a fast car, but didn't really have the money for a pretty one.

and he told me he saw spinners on a big rig and he almost had to pull over he was haughing so hard

Once I was watching monster truck races on TV and saw an Escalade monster with spinners.

I can understand Caymen feeling bad, OTOH just because someone is in a chair doesn't mean they have taste. On The Third Hand, taste is a subjective thing, isn't it? Although it would be possible to nicely lower a handicapped van, monochrome it, wheels, tint, maybe ground effects and it would look pretty good.

I might roll my eyes today at some rigs  but given the silly crap that we did to our vehicles when I was a teenager in the 70's, I'm in no position to criticize anyone.

Air shocks, L-60 Mickey's, shag carpet, orange axles and gas tanks, NE-2 neon bulbs on the CB antenna, and refector-equipped mudflaps were the height of fashion back in the day. I was THE MAN, had quadrophonic 8-track , amping the drive-in with Boston and Kiss.

"More than a feeeelin'....."

Yeah, I don't "make fun" of other people's rides. But I do think whether I like it or not.

I like a wide range of vehicles and can usually appreciate what someone at least tried to do!

Mookie,

I was making fun of it because it was a pimped out Caravan. When the owner is in a wheelchair, I understand why it is a Caravan and not a Civic.

Tom

Frankly, regardless of someone's walking ability, I find a pimped out Civic far more hilarious than a pimped out Caravan...
