Since he is physically handicapped you can't make fun of him?

Caymen, aren't you the one who points and laughs at vehicles that you don't like? So, what if the person in the "UGLY" car is handicapped, then you just forget about it. Please clear something up... I am really confused with how you choose to make fun. Because I guess it's okay if the person isn't handicapped.

always respect what other's drive. i may not care for the choice they make, but i always respect it !. if it's a " pimped ", " ricer ", " muscle car ", whatever, show some respect for what they take pride in. i don't like mustangs, but i respect the choice that the owner made.

" to each, his own ".

as far as the person being handicapped, they even deserve more respect because they have more of a challenge to overcome.

Yup. Drive a Ridgeline, Element, or Scion Xb. I will laugh.

The crippled guy driving a Caravan was laughed at because it was a Dodge Caravan in a car show pimped out. The only reason he had a Caravan was out of a necesity because he was in a wheelchair. That changes everything. I am sure if he could, he would own something like a Focus, Explorer, Evo, WRX, etc., not a Caravan.

If the owner of the Caravan was normal like me, not saying I am normal, I would have kept laughing because, well, he pimped out a Caravan.

p.s. Larry, no. I used to take my camera and all I end up with is a bunch of pictures I don't look at, but can't throw away. I just don't bother. Next summer, I will take my camera.

caymen,

how do you know that he chose the caravan because of his disability. maybe he chose it because he liked it, or maybe it was given to him, maybe thats all he can afford.

did you assume that ? or were you to embarrassed to ask ?

i guessed you assumed he would perfer a focus, expl, wrx etc.

well let me laugh at the focus wagons i had in my fleet, they sucked. now my toyota matrix are blowing them away and getting much more at auction then the focus did !

as far as bashing the scion xb, i have one in my fleet. as an owner of a 99 escort zx2, i much perfer my matrix or scion. don't get me wrong the zx2 is a good car, but no where near the quality of the matrix/scion.

as much as you don't want to admit it, chevy and ford are not keeping up in the market

and are in trouble.

is it your union attitude or is it a lack of respect ?

Gary,

How do I know he chose the van for his disability? Well, lets see. He is in a wheelchair, the wheelchair is also used as the drivers seat. Using an SUV, or even a Matrix for that matter would be next to impossible. Why a Caravan? That I don't know. Maybe he liked it better then a Chevy Venture or Ford Windstar/Freestar. I don't know. Frankly, I don't care why he chose a Caravan. I would think it would be safe to assume, he did not choose being in a wheelchair. He still has the personal will to live like a 20 something kid does. I give him credit for that.

When I made fun of the van, I was making fun of someone out there pimping out a Van. Why a Caravan? I did not know. Once I seen the wheelchair, I realized that this kid has no other choice but to drive a van type of vehicle.

Note, I also included a range of vehicles. From an SUV (Explorer) to a small car (Focus), to a Sporty and very fast car (EVO or WRX).

I know, you have made it perfectly clear you hate Ford Focus cars. I don't like them either. I prefer an Escort over a Focus, including a ZX2.

I could care less what my car at the auction is worth. I drive them into the ground, so when I get rid of them, they have over 100,000 miles on them and they have been worked hard.

Give me some numbers about how much better the Matrix is over the Focus.

Original cost, auction sale price, etc.

tom,

my thoughts, regardless if he is in a wheelchair or not, why make fun of it ?

peolpe are people and have different tastes. why laugh at what someone takes pride in ?

i don't like alot of cars, but i respect what the owner chose. i am sure people don't like my trac, 350z, vette, matrix, or xz2, but it's what i chose !

as far as hating the focus, i don't , they just don't hold up against a matrix or scion, that's my choice again for my company.

the focus wagons were 15,500 new the same price as a matrix ( fleet priced ).

focus wagn after 1 year with an average of 50k miles at auction 6,500 - 7,000

matrix after 1 year with same mileage at auction 9,000.

repair costs are down 40% with the matrix over the focus.

as mentioned, chevy& ford are in trouble and i believe in big part due to the greedy union worker.

don't want to start a war, this is just my thoughts.

Disabled folks don't want pity or special treatment. All they want is a level playing field.

Nothing worse than giving disabled people the "feel sorry for you / poor guy" treatment.

Greedy union worker. OK whatever. Read a little. You would be surprised to find out how greedy the union worker is compared to the other people involved in GM's demise.

I don't think I am feeling sorry for that guy. It would not be fair to point at his van and call his vehicle stupid if that is all he can own because of his condition. As for a level playing field. Why not remove wheelchair ramps. That will make it level. Not saying I dislike those with disabilities, those with disabilities need more help then those without them need. I have a retarted sister.
