Would you suggest I use ethanol free fuel with this new Dixie Chopper. I have heard the ethanol can really gum some parts up and cause damage over time so I am considering starting out using ethanol free fuel from the get-go and just make it a habit of always using ethanol free fuel. There are two places in town where I can purchase it

If you can find ethanol free fuel, I would use that. But check your Dixie Chopper manual to see what they recommend. But if you can't find ethanol free fuel, then you might be stuck using what ever you can get. Hopefully you can still get E10 (not more than 10% ethanol) and hope the EPA backs off their requirement of E15 gas.

yep, called this morning to make sure, but we have at least 2 stations in town that have "no ethanol" unleaded. Premium price of course, but might as well start this new mower out right

Only Ethonal fuel here, We have no choice.

You can Google ethanol-free gas and may find a place near you to get it. There is a website with a national list but I forget the name. Alternatively, as I mentioned in the other thread, just use Sta-Bil in the gas all the time. Ethanol evaporates faster than gasoline and gums up the carbs. You don't see that problem in cars very much because the fuel is under pressure for the fuel injection and doesn't sit like it does in a carb plus they are typically run more and get fresh fuel more often than a mower. I have a mower, an edger, a snowblower, and a jetski. Since I put Sta-Bil in the gas all the time I've not had any problems

JohnnyO,

I have googled Ethanol Free fuel and cannot find any stations within 75 miles of my house that sell ethanol free gasoline. About 6 years ago, there was only one gas station that sold E-85 in town.

When I bought my 2008 Mercedes it was certified to use only E85 or Premium (92 octane) gas. The dealer said that even though it was OK to use E85, he did not recommend it since I would notice a significant drop in performance and gas mileage. I thought I might try a tank to see check the mileage and performance with E85, but by then, that Station had already stopped selling E85 and the only ones that sold E85 were about 100 miles away.

The only ethanol-free gas stations I can find in my area are in the "uncivilized" areas of my state (and the closest ones to me are only accessible via an over-capacity toll bridge that has an obscenely high toll). Most are located in areas that are also exempt from the car emissions testing. Interestingly there are some near the oceanfront "resort town" and seemingly none in the portion of my state that is in the Appalachians. I guess that the rebellious and self-reliant spirit of Appalachia bailed out of MD.

It looks as though I have CNG and (an) E85 station close by though.:banghead:

Thankfully Sta-Bil is available everywhere.

made a couple more calls today. Looks like there are 5 stations here that have ethanol free gasoline. Got some today, $4.07/gal. That's $.40 higher than regular unleaded but if its better for the new mower, I guess I should be doing it

Sta-Bil also makes an ethanol treatment but it costs more and as far as I can tell the regular product works fine.
