I'm trying to find out from users here how stable this product is. I know it is a Beta version, but I am considering putting it on my desktop (primary computer). I'm specifically curious about how Firefox performs with the platform, since it is a competing product.

This article from e-Week seems to disagree. It looks like I will only need to upgrade my video card, assuming I want to have the prettier displays offered, otherwise my GUI will revert to a "legacy" one, without shutting off the more important features of the new OS.

I guess I'l just take a dive, and see what happens.

I was going off this <a href="http://www.cnet.com/4520-6022_1-6213913.html" target="top">article</a>, "Longhorn...new 64-bit operating system".

Nelson,

Your link is not to Vista. It is to the server edition of Longhorn. Here is the link to Vista.

I've been thinking about trying to get it. Just ordered parts to build a new computer at work. Got the new AMD 64-3500 with an MSI Neo motherboard. It should scream at 32 bits, I would love to see what it could do at 64. XP has a 64 bit OS but I've read bad things about it. I think I would rather wait on Vista then buying the XP 64.

Nelson,

If you are thinking about installing this to use on your primary or only computer I would definitely wait. There are going to be a lot of changes from now until the final release and you will have to reinstall anyway. I'm sure there are still a lot of bugs and who knows what drivers are working right now.

If you have an extra computer to install it on then I would say go ahead. I'm sure it will run on 32-bit processors but make sure you have enough power and a good video card.

Good luck if decide to install.

George

Simply put. Setup up your pc to dual boot. Keep your current OS and install Vista or whatever in another folder or harddrive. Not quite this simple but it will allow you to keep your current setup while playing with the new OS.
