Somebody told me that Ford or Firestone gives you a list of maintence issues that need to be done to your car when you have 45,000 to 50,000 miles. What are the things and which do you really need to do?

Thanks,

Brian

I know it is a lot of money but when a car reaches a certain age I am a firm believer in taking it to the dealer and having them perform a full service for the age and mileage of the vehicle. I have driven cars away from this service feeling like they were brand new because they tightened up all the suspension and steering, adjusted the brakes, replaced out all the worn bushings, greased every possible joint and hinge and not to mention the regular plugs, wires, fluids and such. Once again it will cost you but the dealer knows what needs to be done for the miles. I cringe when I pay the bill but when I get in the car, start it up and drive off the lot I know it was worth it for the new feeling of a tight vehicle.

All I did was change the oil and filter, and check the air filter. Can't rotate the tires, and the brakes and tranny are getting done this weekend.

If you've still got your owners manual, there's a Matenaince guide in there that tells you what to do and when.

As Tiger did, change oil and filter, and rotate tires. Manual says to check braking system, inspect wheel ends for end play and noise, inspect enegine cooling system and hoses, and inspect steering linkage, suspension and driveshaft and ball joints.

Besides the usual oil and filter, check the air filter, flush the coolant, flush the tranny and change the fuel filter if you haven't already, and change the transfercase lube if it's a 4x4.
