Hi all,

I bought the rear cab spoiler, and am getting a new quarter panel for my truck, and want to paint my cladding....

I am actually in the painting business (Not as a painter) but I did paint for 15 years, although mostly commercial painting... SO I do know how to spray, very well actually... But what I dont know is what a good inexpensive paint gun would be... anyone have any recommendations?

I figure between all those tasks, I could save an easy $500-750CAN on painting if I can do it myself.

Thanks!

this is real close to the el cheepo gun I used to paint my stuff

First off, have you got a good air delivery system with filter dryers? Or at least some way of drying the air? If not, you need to invest in that first. Just keep in mind that in order to make what you paint look as good as the factory paint (not like that's a very high standard), you need to do it right and invest in the right tools and equipment.

But Eastwood is a good place to look at a few guns, but as always, shop around to get the best price you can. DeVilbiss and Iwata are some bigger names that make good high-end guns.

I agree with Tiger. You must have a good air delivery system. A friend of mine tried to paint a door on one of his cars with a automotive paint gun with a regular compressor (without an air dryer) and it looked like crap. My compressor came with a paint spryer and I wouldn't use it to paint my car. If you have a good compressor, then look into the filter dryers and with a good gun it will work for you.;)

Im not concerned with the compressor, I will be using a friends spraybooth, he just is very picky about his spray guns, lol.

One thing to remember is no matter how crappy the paint goes on (dirt, runs, orange peel) a good wet sanding job and it will look like a million bucks ($1,000,000.00). LOL You can make any bad paint job; as long as you have good adhesion, look great with wet sanding.
