Does any member of this site belong to this union or know anyone that belongs? The place I work is in the process of being sold and there are a few employees that are trying to get the union in. Personally I think it's the wrong time but there are people that don't think that. If the union gets in that could cause problems with the current owner and possibly the future owner. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I know alot of people are anti-union so please keep the comments to a minimum I am only interested in any info on this union.

thanks in advance, ray

I am a member of the Boilermakers Union, Local 900, Barberton, Ohio. I know it isn't the same union, but here are my thoughts.

I feel a union is a good thing for the employees and employer alike. If both sides can stay civil with each other, both sides can flourish. If one side of the table gets too "frisky", there will be nothing but problems. Many unions that become too powerful become that way because of the salary side of the company. Kinda how a fight starts off. You call me a name, I get mad and I call you a worse name. Soon...you push me, I push you. Before long, we are in a full blown fight. No matter who wins the fight, there is still hard feelings and any time someone gets a chance to screw the other person, they will.

Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I would wait until the new owner settles in to see what direction the company wants to go. The ultimate person responsible for a union coming in is the owner. Keep the employees happy by treating them fairly, evenly, and pay them well, there is no reason for any union to come in.

Pay the employees the bare minimum and say that is all you can afford, yet drive a a different Viper every day of the week, is a sure shot to get a union in there.

I dont know of anyone in the union you are talking about, but they are pretty much the same and fight for the same cause.

Question to you raym2, are you in a position to know what the primary motivation is behind the current owner's wish to sell?

Possible answers to that question might help folks to better understand whether or not the business and it's employees would benefit from unionization.
