Hey, Billy Ford, you want to make a BOLD MOVE? Try showing the world that you have a secret weapon for all those wanna-be "SUT's", johnny-come lately's, and those who are just starting to make trucks, a little something to beat. Golly gee, Bill, it wouldn't hurt your image to say that you have a red-headed stepchild. After all, you've made a few hundred million dollars off that child. And besides, you never tell anyone about him(her?), you just let that child have a little space at your stores, behind those huge F-150's and those Super Duty's! Make a BOLD MOVE and MOVE that child out front sometimes, let it breathe, show off a few of those children that you have made, they come in all colors except green, and you call yourself an eco-friendly company, but you have NO GREEN stepchildren!

BOLD MOVE my %#@!

Just venting, folks, won't you join me?

A few have wondered why there is not a grren tinted color like the Aspen Green of the past generation ST's. Besides, this thread is for a not-so-serious discussion. I just wanted to open a volley over Bill Ford's head on behalf of ST owners past and present. Thanks for asking. I don't want a green one myself!

Aha, R! You are a Ford kid (job), so I wonder what does your "ultimate boss" think of me comments? I love Ford products, so I am just wolfing at them, but they never listen to the opinions of the people here, at least not in my mind's eye. SO, I just shoot back at them on something that is of interest to me. Kinda makes me wish that ol' Henry would come back and smack ol' smarty pants BILL FORD back to the future!

Billy's cool, he loves to receive customer feedback!

Write him a card! He'd love that!

R, you rat! I bet you sent him my e-mail and he's waiting for to take me up on that dare!

I'm just trying to get inside their heads at FORD! BUT, would he write me back in response to my query? Seriously though, I do wish that they would put the ST out front of the dealerships along with all the other trucks they show off, that way they don't have to spend money to advertise it. What a slam, they've had this truck for six years now and they haven't spent a dime to promote it except for the brochures! Personally, I think thye are afraid it wold get too close to the F-150 in sales, or run past the Explorers and expose their best kept secret - which is the ST! And R, you neeed to tell the higher-ups that I can't buy an 07 until next year, so save some of that Dark Cherry paint for one more 07 Job 2 for me, ok?;)

I like manual trannies, but with all the stop-n-go traffic around here, an auto is the only way to go. ST does have a 6-speed and a two speed transfer case though.

My request would be the tow hooks on the front. I've used those on my '02 quite a bit lately. Pulling shrubs, stumps and pulling a trailer sideways to reposition it under a load. Suppose I could use the hitch on the '07 for all that, just doesn't look as cool without them.

It would be interesting to hear why there is no advertising on the ST or why it is not a part of the Bold Moves marketing initiative. Is it purely a $ decision, does it threaten other key Ford products (Ranger and /or F150), or what...? I would think the ST could be a key market. Gas prices are going up, more people are living in urban areas. Yet, people still need the capabilities offered by a truck bed. Many of us have found that the size of the ST bed is not really a limitation, rather it has proven to be an ideal compromise. For many, gas prices and the need to commute make an SUV a better alternative than a full size truck.

I made a comment to my hubby when the Escape Hybrid commercial came on. Something about my cream puff coming out of the sky and killing Kermit. There's BOLD for ya Ford!! [Broken External Image]:

I thought the ST was a crossover...part pickup/part SUV. Since it is also a new model, it seems really stupid not to promote it. No wonder I see more Ridgelines on the road in OKC than I do '07 STs.

The STs on the lot near my house have been there for a couple of months. No sale. Either people don't know they're there or they are waiting for the $5,000 rebate at the end of the year to make up for all the things they stripped off from the '05 models.

Could it be they sell all that they build? Are they limited by plant capacity? 50,000-60,000?

If every one that is built sells, why advertise?:)

R, okay, I will send him a note. I'll use your name for cover! I'm thinking that he has TOO much mail coming in to answer my little ol' complaint ....cause it will be about the ST! Not that it would be scathing, but rather it pertains to what most ST owners feel is a lack of exposure fot this truck. If we like something so unique as the ST, it would be a bonus to the manufacturer to listen to the masses. What are the chances that a little more exposure would boost the new 07 ST sales to a record high? IMO, it would expose what most people don't know: There IS an alternative to the RIDGELINE, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and the Mitsu Raider as well as the Nissan Frontier! Everytime I see a new 07 ST, I think how unique it looks even with a complete makeover and more power, options, and standard safety features and available safety options. R, you represent Ford in a way, as you have many times here at this forum, and you are privy to some things others are not. Keep a few tidbits dangling for us to look for, but clue us in on what the brass at Ford really listens to from this site. I for one would love to know that. BTW, wonder why Bill has never even taken up a few minutes of our time to address this site with some warm and soothing words for the masses of Ford Sport Trac owners past and present? I know I can drop him a line, but it wouldn't hurt him to drop ALL OF US A LINE, FROM TIME TO TIME, here at mysporttrac.com! Thanks to all who have made this thread have a variety of opinions! Okay R< I'm about to write that note to young Billy Ford. Should I cc ol' Henry a copy? ;)

Marv,

You GO, boy!

PS. ST sales do count towards the overall Explorer #'s, so in a way the ST is somewhat of a "dark horse" of a truck in that it contributes to the SUV's success...not the "red-headed stepchild" y'all make it to be. ;)

Taking the ol' Compny line, huh R? :lol:Just kidding there, R. You're our man in downtown Detroit! R, does that sales figure total separate the distinction between the ST and regular Explorer? I think inquiring minds would like to know where the ST stands against the so-called competition. BTW, R, If I wait until this time next year to buy, would there be a chance that the 08's would be nearing a production date? I may want to wait for more goodies to come around. I was originally waiting until next March t buy an 07. Fill me (us) in! ;)

We know where the ST stands vs. Dakota/Tacoma/Ridgeline/Colorado...it ROCKS!!! Search this thread for info, should be there too!

08 will launch next summer, similar to the other normal program launches (end-May).

;)

Gotta go make trucks,

- R

Thanks there R, almost "too" much information! As long as the ST beats the stuffing out of those other trucks, I can relax about numbers, but.....I did want to know stats ...oh well....let's see... lumping Explorer SUV's + ST's = ? Then, subtracting ST's from that total...='s ? -vs- other same class trucks = ? ....I'm going back to math class!

I didn't see the thread you referred to, but I will discuss that with you after you put those trucks together, er.. we don't want any lemons out here:lol::eek:

Someday R, you will spill those beans all over this site! Thanks for all your replies, it was fun to banter back and forth with you, and to the others who pitched in, it was great to have your input as well! We could run this thread until ....... Ford advertises the ST!!!
