I am going on my honeymoon to Hawaii, but we are also going to spend couple days in California. Hollywood Hills to be exact.

As a kid, I loved Lego's. I would like to see Legoland California.

Mapquest says it is about an hour and a half drive. How true is that. I have heard traffic sucks in California. Is that something we could do in a half to 3/4 of a day and still get back in a decent hour, or would we spend half the day in traffic?

I have never been to California, so I prefer to get a locals opinion...

Legoland is located in Carlsbad, CA.

Tom

Hi ~ I live in San Diego. Legoland is good if you have younger kids (under 8 - my opinion) Legoland is good. Be sure to check hours of operation because they have pretty short hours (for an amusement park).

I would guess the drive time is closer to 2 hrs or so. If you're visiting during a weekday, be sure to coordinate your driving around the commute !

I hope this helps.

Yeah, Tom, traffic does suck so you want to avoid being on the road weekdays between approximately 6 am to 9:15 am and 2:30 pm to 7 pm. Weekend traffic is heavy all day; not as bad as weekday commute time, but not free-flowing either. It will probably take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours....

Maybe wait for the morning traffic to subside, get there around noon, have lunch, visit the park 'til closing, have dinner then drive back after evening traffic.

What do you think, fellow SoCal members, is the above accurate? What's been your experience?

Tom,

Didn't know you were gettin' marriaged! Congratulations and Good Luck!

Bring me back a Pineapple, or some of that $4.00 a gallon gas, so I can see how

good it is! (Compared to our $3.00 a gallon gas here in Tennessee)!

Just Kiddin', and Good Luck!

:wub::D

I agree with Mookie on the driving hours... I happen to live 5 minutes away from LEGOLAND.

I don't know what the hours are but I can tell you that I have always enjoyed going there.

It is a engineering marval!!!

Hell, while your in town, I'd even consider buying ya all a beer!! Let me know!!!:D:D:D

Caymen, Mookie is right on with the rush hours during the weekdays with traffic a lot worse on Fridays. School is out too so there are more students on the road especially in the evening.

From Hollywood to Carlsbad mapquest recommends the I-5 freeway for most of the way which moves along quite well if you avoid the aforementioned hours. There is a small stretch as you leave L.A. where the I-5 shrinks to three lanes and it always seems like slow pokes are leading the pack three wide. After that the freeways splits and opens up real good. I've never past Dana Point (on a regular basis) so I can't speak of the traffic after that. We do have carpool lanes out here so that should help you out too.

I too was a Lego kid and my cousins took me out to Lego Land for nostalgia's sake on my b-day years ago (I was early/mid twenties?). There were some exhibitions that wowed me but for the most part the place is extremely child-oriented and nostalgia gave way to mostly feeling how old I'd gotten.

Hope you enjoy your stay here in Cali and congratulations.

CHRIS,

Thanks for the offer. I was really into Lego's. Before Lego's really took off in the USA, my grandmother would send me some really cool kits from Germany. I had the kits NOBODY could get in the USA.

Even at the age of 15 and 16, I would still play with them once in a while. Lego's have a place in my heart.

I think it would be awesome to see the things that can be built with Lego's.

2 hours is still not a bad drive.

Tom

Lego's are cool! They do amazing things with all those Legos. As a kid i would have passed out if they offered me that many Legos to build things. :D

Hey Caymen,

I also have kits that no one here has. My relatives from the Netherlands would send them to me, I even have the mulitple electric Lego train sets that run on 220V. My friends used to love coming to my house to play with all of it. My parents took us to Legoland in Denmark when I was in my early teens. It was amazing.

Tom are you driving to Cali, or flying. Congrats to ya on the marriage. I hope that your honeymoon is great.

Last ime I checked, they haven't finished that bridge from LA to Honolulu let, so I will have to fly. J/K :D

We are flying from Cleveland, Oh to Cincinnatti, OH to Honolulu, HI. On the way home we are flying from Honolulu to LAX, then to Concinnatti, then to Cleveland.

We are looking foreward to our trip.

yes mookie, i agree.. the traffic does suck from 6am to i would say 9:30-10am. cause we went to san diego and we left around 10am and the traffic was pretty good. and we started back around 10am on saturday.. but hubby drives in the traffic during the week. and so that he avoids the traffic he gets up at 230 am and leaves the house at 330 so he can get to work on time by 530.. so he usually gets to work around 430am. so plan you driving to san diego carefully.. good luck cayman and congratulation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can also do a search for legoland discounts to find something else, but this is the one I found for ya.;)
