Just curious as to how many MB the average person would use? I found a plan which offered 8MB a day but really what does 8MB get me? I have no idea, and also are you able to browse the net and use messaging services and if so will that devastate my 8MB a day limit? Also if it matters I'm planning on getting the new Palm Treo 700

That is enough data to fill around five 1.44 MB floppy disks. Most broadband cable systems provide 6 MB/SECOND download rates. I think one could easily exceed that small amount of data

yeah it doesnt seem too good my internet is running at 100mbps but i was just curious as to how much say checking and email or sending a message would use of that 8mb

you would be able to check your email and spend a little time on the net but not to long stay away from pics and graphics 1 letter is a byte

8MB is not much. I have a Treo 700W. If I load espn.com or wunderground.com, I can snap off 250K-500K in one shot. On a college football Saturday (of course, not so much now, but go back three months), if not in front of a TV, I'd easily break 8MB. I go the unlimited route through Verizon.

As is usual, you just need to figure out what it is you're going to be receiving across the airwaves. E-mail only, e-mail with attachments, regular web pages, regular web pages that are mostly text, and WAP pages (which are mostly text from websites that are specially configured for viewing on PDAs and cell phones) might be some examples. And, how much do you expect to use it?

It's not the same thing, but as an example, I use a Razr with Verizon, and pay $5/month for the Mobile Web 2.0 option. That lets me use the Verizon web browser in exchange for airtime minutes. It connects to a Verizon portal that lets me surf the news, sports, technology, business, etc. I can also add my own websites as favorites, but haven't found the need to do that yet. I also get e-mail from AOL and Google on it, but not my home ISP. BUT, I only use my Razr as a web browser when I'm sitting around without a regular computer with access to the Internet, and I'm bored. And I'm all good with that. The bottom line is that it's really all I want or need when I'm not at home or work (I've also hacked the phone so I can use it as a modem when hooked up to a laptop - but that's a whole different story...)

You just need to figure out what your bottom line is. What are you going to use your Treo for?

Are you going to go with Telus? I think they have a promo where they give you three months of unlimited Data when you sign up. You can then see how much you use and bump your plan around accordingly. Remember, you get to change your rate plan twice a year for free with Telus.
