I've been looking for a cheap way to upgrade my Adobe Acrobat 6 to ver 7 and ran accross this site. How can they sell stuff this cheap? Can they be trusted? Just curious if anyone has any type of experiences with "them"

You know that saying that if it sounds to good to be true...?

These guys are selling pirated or cracked software, so let your conscious be your guide.

Any particular reason you have to have Acrobat 7? Just curious. I use version 5 at home, and version 6 at work. Some of the faculty at the college I work at have version 7, so I've seen it. To me it's kind of like the different versions of Microsoft Office, more bells and whistles with newer versions, but underneath they all perform the same function.

BTW, Adobe has a download to upgrade to version 8 for $159, almost $300 off of the full price.

So, if Adobe has 8 for $159, what makes Adobe 7 for $69 sound like a rip off? If it's an older version, why should it cost more?

LaRue,

If you look at the top of the left-hand frame on that site you will see that it says OEM software.

OEM software is the software that is preloaded on computers from the manufactures. OEM software is not supposed to be sold separately. It's only supposed to be bundled with a PC purchase.

I don't think it's legal for them to sell it, but nobody seems to do anything about it. About 5 years ago I purchased Adobe PhotoShop, real cheap. I just thought it was because Adobe had or was about to come out with a newer version. When I got the software there was a note inside that said the software came without any support from Adobe and I could register the product with them??? I called Adobe to get an explaination an was told that it was illegal for them to sell OEM software without it being part of a PC purchase.

Adobe asked me to contact an organization called BSI and report this. I called and the guy I spoke with was a BSI attorney. They were an organization that catered to software development companies like Adobe and MicroSoft to investigate suspected software piracy, as well as Copyright and software Licensing violations.

I had to send him the CD-ROM as well as all the documentation relating to the sale. They inturn sent me a letter confirming that the software was sold illegally and I used that to force my credit card company to remove the charges off my credit card account. I used my Amex card and they tried to tell me that they could not remove the charge because I had already received the merchandise. The letter convinced them that the sale was illegal and the debit should be reversed. It took them about 2 weeks, but they did remove the charge.

I do not condone software piracy, licensing violations, or copyright/patent infringment and that's what these places are doing. The tip off is they sell OEM software !

If you add something to the Cart and than go to your Checkout there is a note

"Important: By pressing this button you agree to receive the software designated for home use only without any certificate or a license. You will not be able to register this software with the manufacturer. "

So I would say stay clear of software from this site.... When you can buy Windows Media Center 2005 for $59.99 you know something is rotten in Denmark!

Cheers
