code question

Not Trac related but still in the Ford family. My wifes 2000 Windstar XL 3.8L just flashed these codes PO171 (To lean bank 1) and PO174 (To lean bank 2). What is the cause and how could I fix it? I know the GREAT PEOPLE on this GREAT SITE could shed some light on this problem. Thanks in advance for the help!

im pretty sure on that motor the upper intake manifold leaking. there is a TSB to upgrade a bunch of parts to fix it. They are listed in the TSB

Vacuum leak or egr system not opening up!!

First thing to check is the air filter.

I bet it has the 3.8L engine...Am I right?



If so, money says it is the intake manifold gasket. If you need help replacing it, please let me know. I could come up to see you to help or you could come down here to do it.

I never seen that in the original message. As soon as I seen Windstar and CEL engine light I knew it was the 3.8L engine.
