R&G, I got it off download.com. Don't get it off thier site. It's just a temp program. Go to the site and do a search for AVG and it will come up. I think the new version is AVG 7.0 free. Even if you get the previous version it will upgrade when you do all the updates. The nice thing about the program is also, almost every day there is a new virus update or such to keep the version current. Norton and Makaffy (sp) putt out thier major updates only once a week. AVG puts them out as soon as they get the update.

From your event viewer it sounds like a problem with one of your drives. Sometimes some things are saved to your floppy drive or ROM drives memory for boot up.
Here is the AVG on download.com. It's the AVG Free Ver.7.1.375. That should be the newest version and as always, when it's installed do an update and you'll be ready to go. If you want a spam filter there is also one that I use on here from "Cactus Spam" and it's pretty nice and small. It will "train" itself (with alittle help from you) and filter all the e-mails you don't want to a folder or not even take it off your server.
