Ok. I think I have the Internet thing worked out thank to the help from my previous post. (Thanks all)

Now for the other part of that post. What happened is, my daughter has a few leaning games that she plays on the computer. She's really good about not turning it off when she is done BUT the last time she did shut it off with the CDRom still in it. I turned the computer on and got the disk out before (I thought) anything booted up but probably not. Now I get a page right before window media center loads that asks if I want WMC or Restore center to load. It only gives a few second to make a decition then loads WMC. Is there something I can do to get it from doing this? It's just annoying. I've tried a few things but nothing I've done has worked. i'm willing to try anything. (I'm like that:lol:);)

Try going into msconfig and checking the startup apps. Something may have gotten loaded since the system booted with the cd in.

Be real careful with this:

make a copy of c:\boot.ini, call it boot.sav.

right click my computer, select properties, go to the advanced tab, startup and recovery, click settings.

look in the drop down list to see if "recovery console is listed.

click the edit button

remove the line for recovery console.

save the file

reboot

pray

pray hard

Sacrifice a monkey and pray harder.

boot.ini should look similar to this:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut

If there is a line under [Operating Systems] that says multi(#)disk(#)rdisk(#)partition(#)\WINDOWS="Recovery Console" That is the one to remove.

If it's booting fine, and you're uncomfortable doing all of this, instead of editing boot.ini, consider setting default startup selection countdown to 0 and never worry about it again.

Nobleman,

Thanks for those helpful tips.

With over 30 years of experience, I have always sacrificed a goat, but it makes sense that a monkey would work better...:D

Funny, but very helpful.

Nobleman, I can tell you when I pulled up "msconfig" and went to "boot.ini" it does list under systems: Windows Media Center and right under it is Recovery console. Not in those exact words of course. It gives a long strand of commands and at the end of them it says those two options.

It is booting fine other than that option page. How would I go about just setting the default staertup selection countdown to 0?

Get the monkey to ride the goat while praying at the same time.

This should fix all problems.

P.S....

Give the monkey a beer and it should help him to stay on the goat

long enough for the prayer to take hold!!!

P.S.S.

Then reboot, as usual...

Stone,

right click my computer, select properties, go to the advanced tab, startup and recovery, click settings.

"Time to display list of operating systems" can be set to 0 and it will take the default OS right away.

The second option for recovery options is when your puter has issues or you press F8, safe mode etc... Leave that at 30, you'll need 10 seconds to say "Fu**", 5 more to read it, and another 15 to figure out which option to take.

If you want to see that menu, pull the power on your puter while xp is booting and has the banner page with scrolling bar, on next boot, viola, recovery options.

I do this stuff for fun.
