Some idiot spilled a McD's sweet tea all over the console of my Trac last week, and a lot of it ran down around the transmission gear selector. Now the gearshit sticks and feels really rough. Anyone know how to pull the console out to get to it? Any ideas as to cleaning out the mechanism and possibly lubricating it?

I got the chrome bezel removed and wiped out as much as I could from the top.

Thanks

I know someone else that did that...

Lift the console lid - there are two 7mm screws there on the front. Remove them.

Lift the center section bezel from the back and pull upwards tilting it toward the radio/AC bezel. It is pop clips and they will release. Depending on what you have for accessories, there, unplug them. (12V, ipod, storage, etc). It will remove down to the center section of the radio/AC bezel.

The chrome ring will also pop off.

You can then clean the shifter from there. To remove the sides, move the seats to the forward most position and rear most position to remove 2 bolts on each side.

I cleaned mine with carb cleaner, q-tips, a rag, and oiled with WD-40. I had a shop vac in the truck with the nozzle turned on to help remove the overspray and scent. Worked pretty well...

The people that know me think I'm OCD because I am so meticulous in my Trac. No food period... unless it is in a wrapper and a bag and it is definitely not going to be eaten in the Trac. If you have a drink it must have a lid and a straw or a cap which is on securely and I have cloths that go in the cup holders... they are not optional.

Hmmm maybe they're right.
