Something new has just happened to my TRAC.

I have a hard time getting my Cruise Control to engage...

First I have a 04 Sport Trac.

When I turn on the cruise and press the set button the cruise light flashes and goes out. if I keep pressing it at some point it may come on.... But most times it doesn't work just keeps flashing when I push the button...

Does not matter what speed I am at either...

Any ideas?

Cheers

Brake pedal switch adjustment? I remember the '88 up Chevy trucks brake light/ cruise cancel switches were bad to get out of adjustment from the drivers toe lifting the pedal by accident or whatever.

Trac doesn't have brake pedal switch. The switch is in the brake hydraulic system; mounted at front of master cylinder. Disconnect switch and test to see if it is closed using an ohmmeter. This switch should be Normally Open.

Oh yeah, duh, you'd think I'd remember that one since I know my Trac has the meltdown RED one! :D Sorry.

Maybe Clifford's Trac has the dreaded RED switch and it's defective. Maybe more serious than just the cruise not working... ?

Try tilting your steering wheel up and down a little... There is a wiring issue with the ST..

I had the EXACT same issue. Did all the checks on various parts. Tilted the column up and down wiggled everything. Found no defective items.

Started to work the next day and has ever since..

Sooooo, if you do find an actual defective item please post your results..

The last time I had trouble with a cruise control, the yuk from the battery had eaten a hole in the a vacuum line under the battery tray. But that was Chevy.

Guys....

We had this problem last year when still under warranty. The dealer replaced the cruise switches in the steering wheel.

Hit "set" and the dash light would just flash...

Take it to the dealer for replacement cruise switches...

Well I am taking the TRAC to the dealer on Tuesday this week. It was in acouple weeks ago and I had a problem with the RPMS jumping when the automatic tranny was switching gears. They dealer said it was a seal problem and also said that the issue with the cruise was due to this..... Guess what they had no clue what they were talking about.... ruise didn't even work when I left the Dealer.... Like they never even check this...

So we will see what happens on Tuesday! Its so fun.. I get to squeeze my big ass into a FOCUS for a day.... YIPPEE!

Cheers
