I have a problem with my dimmer switch. When I turn the dial UP to turn on the cab light, then I turn it back down, all my gauges go dark, when I have my driving lights on. I have to turn the dial almost all the way up to where it clicks over to the cab light, and then it slowly gets brighter and sometimes it don't. So I have to play around with this a couple times until the light gauges are as bright as can be.

Is there a way to replace the Dim Switch or is there just a short somewhere?

The dimmer swicth is a potentiometer(varible resistor) it may be wore out or you could try cleaning it with some contact cleaner..You would have to remove it from the dash, so I would just replace it...

They normally last a lifetime. But every now and then fail. Sounds like yours is on it's way out. Sometimes if you simply move it up and down several times fairly fast it will come back to life. basically, if it is dirty, you get a poor connection. Moving it up and down many times can help get a better contact.

If not, just replace it...

Speaking of dimmer switches and light switches, does anyone have a light swtch wiring diagram for a 2004 sports trac. I need it to try and make a mod for fog lites on a earlier explorer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Mickey

My switch has always acted like that, the replacement is like $50, I've learned to jiggle it.

I tried cleaning it, no dice.
