The wife and I are still kicking around the idea of selling my '01 job 2 and getting a Job 2 '07. We went yesterday and climbed around in one. Anyone here know what size the radio head unit is in the new ST? It looks like it is maybe larger than a Double DIN, but that may have just what I wanted to see. If it is a double DIN I would get rid of my AVIC-N1 and relplace it with an AVIC-Z1. The salesman could not tell me, but did want me to try the Ford Navigation. If I didn't like it he said thay will buy it back. Doesn't seem like something a dealer would do... BTW: Cavilier Ford in Chesapeake, VA has 2 '07's now. A Red one and a Black one. He said the black on was still in the back being prepped.

PS-Crutchfield says that the '07 is not even out yet so they could get measurements for thier aftermarket audio equip.....

Just measured the faceplate on my factory 6 disk MP3 head unit. It's 7.5" x 4.75" but don't know what the chassis size is under the face plate - I'm assuming it's smaller. I don't know if depth is an issue or not with the Z1. The Z1 is 7" x 4" x 6.5" deep. I would love to have the Z1 and have thought about talking to the local auto-sound guy. I could do it myself, and I've done this before, but I'd rather make sure of things like size and whether or not my sterring wheel controls will still work. They have become one of the great things I love about this new ST.

Seeing as how the interior is pretty much a new generation Explorer, you could always try a kit for those and see if it works.

I have radio dimensions!

The faceplate on factory 6 disk MP3 head unit is 7.5" x 4.75".

Behind the faceplate, the chassis is 7" wide and 4.5" high.

The mounts which bolt to the dash on the side of the unit are 1.25" behind the face and 6.25" from the back of the unit, making the radio exactly 7.5" deep from the face to the back.

The Z1 is 7" x 4" x 6.5", smaller than the factory unit, so it should fit with a faceplate adapter that should bolt onto the dash.

Sweet! Thanks all. I did not even think about putting in for a current explorer to check the kit. I even looked online at the current explorer to see what the factory Nav looked like.... Should have thought of that.....
