Door lock problem

2003 ST. My drivers side door lock switch only works when the door is closed. If it is open the open switch does not work. The close mechanism does work however. Any ideas?

Maybe metal fatigue has taken its toll on one or more wires in the bundle that goes to the door. A continuity test with the door open and closed should confirm this theory...or not as the case may be.
