drivers side window off track

just wondering if anyone knows what they use to secure the window to its clips. The "glue" has let go now window has to be manually held in place when rolling up or down. I took the door off and it seems like its just off its mounts. There is a black tar like substance on the clips and glass. My question is does anyone know what this is or have any suggestions on what to use to replace this??oh and how to remove the old gunk

check w/a local windshield repair service, they only charged my son $60 for the total repair [new glue & rivots], came to house, took less than a hour.
