Just terrible news! Long time wrestler, my brother knew him. Very sorry for his family and fans loss.

Happened early Sunday morning. It had made newswires pretty much everywhere. From what I've read he had battled with drugs and alcohol but had been clean for about 4 years now. Some commentator on ESPN Radio said yesterday that his untimely death was "not newsworthy and who really cared that he died?" Pretty heartless if you ask me....

Mark--I agree with your assessment of the 2nd half of that quote. But the first half of the quote really isn't that heartless, and to lots of people out there (especially with wrestling's declining ratings the past several years) it was an accurate statement.

About a week ago while channel surfing, I stumbled across a WWE show, and watched about 15 minutes of it--the first wrestling I'd seen in at least 10 years. I saw parts of 2 matches--one involved midgets wrestling, and the other involved the "comeback" of Rowdy Roddy Piper, who looked like a decrepit 80-year-old man out there. If stuff like this is what they're currently resorting to in order to boost ratings, they truly are struggliing badly...

BillV,

I agree with you 100%, first part of the statement isn't heartless. My comment was geared more towards the 2nd half. Whether it's wrestling, racing or any other sport (it don't even have to be sports or entertainment related) no one should ever say who cares that a particular person died.

God bless Eddie .Bill V were did you hear wrestling ratings are declining, there are the #1 show every week in there time slot and they sell out live shows in seconds.

Yes i am a fan have watched since childhood with my Dad

illegal28,

Actually BillV is correct. I've been a avid wrestling fan for years too and I must admit that their ratings are declining. Given that they've picked-up a little over the past year or two, the rating and followers are not what they once where. But that is beside the point. I just read that the autopsy results showed massive heart failure, which the coroner said resulted from his past addiction to drugs and alcohol.

i remember watching wrestling in 80's and even the 90's it was HUGE.....Hulk, Andre the Giant, Ricky the Dragon, Hacksaw Jim, Iron Sheik, Supa Fly Jimmy Snuka......it isnt what it use to be....
