re: Most Postings on 10/18 re: Alternator/Electrical System

Other than the battery and the alternator what makes up the electrical system ? I replaced the battery so can the problem be anything other than the alternator ?

Faulty warning light, OR faulty wiring from the alt to the battery or faulty wiring from the alt to the computer...

Trevor,

You could but you have to take the alternator apart to do it....

Thanks -

It doesn't sound like it's anything catastrpohic. Probably the alternator. I'll find out tomorrow.

tracbob,

I'm not a big fan of using the shotgun approach to fixing things. That's where you start replacing everything anyone says could be the problem until the problem goes away, and you can say you fixed the problem, whatever it was???

Alternators and internal voltage regulators can be tested with a simple multimeter. Infact, you can go to many auto parts stores and they will test your battery, alternator and voltage regulator for free if you don't have a volt/ohm meter to do the tests yourself.

A simple visual inspection can identify some wiring problems and simple things like dirty or corroded battery terminals or loose connections.
