engine noise

cold engine at around 2800-3000 rpm.. timing chain rattle..

i had the repair done on my 2001, the rattle came back a few thousand miles latter..

mine stops about 15 minutes after engine start..

I agree with TroY, it appears to be caused by a timing chain. To isolate enging noises, get a mechanic's stethoscope and pin point the area the noise is coming from when the engine is running. Determining where noise is coming from can be misleading without this. If you don't have one use a wooden dowel pressed against the suspected source and your ear. The noise will be perceived much loader when you touch the right area.
 
I have the same problem (starts at around 2800 rpm - worst when cold) with my 2001 w/about 98K miles on it. I've been trying to figure it out! How much does it cost to replace/fix it? Does this noise evenaully lead to a break which would cause much more damage? Cheers, Chuck. Waldorf, MD
