I've noticed that after my 02 ST sits for 3 or 4 days and then I start it up, I't has a slight rattle sound for around one second right as it turns over and then all seems quiet.

My ST has 63,000 miles and I have changed my oil every 4000 to 5000 miles.

when I am using it everyday there does not seem to be any rattle.

Questions, comments, complaints,I'll take any help I can get.

Thanks, Markr

There was a Ford recall on earlier ST's for this problem. I think it applies to the 02 year also. I recall Ford extended the warranty to 75,000 miles to cover it. It is the cam tensioner chain and a brief low oil condition. Ford also sells a parts kit to remedy the problem. Estimated cost of a dealer repair is $500-600 if it is not warrantied.

I am sure your Ford dealer will know about it. When my ST made the noise I was able to get on a Ford technical listserv and got tons of replies from Ford mechanics so I am pretty sure that is your problem.

I say change your oil filter first..... Sounds like the anti drain valve is bad, or the filter your using doesnt have one...
