Can anyone give me some insight on the best way to get the most from my amp in the back of the rear passenger seat? I don't want anything fancy, I just want to find out how can the factory amp be tweaked, or can it? Do I just need to get new speakers? I don't want to spend a lot of money on this 01 because I am going to buy a new 07/08 next year about this time and I am keeping the 01 just because it was the original, I just want the best sound from what is there now. BTW, it is the Pioneer 6-Disc System with the 290 watt amp, if that will help.

Marvyn, I have an 04 w/ 290W Audiophile system (probably same as yours). I recently had the opportunity to disconnect the sup/amp from the headunit. The door speakers still worked and I decided to play a CD and boy, the audio sounded pretty bad without the sub being able to provide some kind of bass.

I'm in the process of upgrading my audio system little by little. I recently bought an 04/05 Adrenalin Pioneer head unit (from swap&sell) so I can play MP3s and retain in-dash 6 CD capability. It wasn't plug-n-play with the Audiophile setup so at the moment I'm waiting for a harness to arrive to get the thing hooked up finally.

Anyway, my next step is the door speakers which I plan on upgrading with Pioneer 5x7 2-way Type-S's. I don't plan on upgrading the sub/amp enclosure because this would be pushing the budget. I was pretty happy with the Audiophile system anyway, but the door speaker upgrade is such a straight-forward project. Hopefully I'll have things setup by the end of the month so I can give an update.

Thanks, Flip, that was interesting to know about your little experiment, and it helped me to decide to just change out the speakers with the ones you suggested. I knew I could find help here!;)

From what I've gathered, the audio quality of speakers are not just dependent on the quality of the speakers themselves, but also by how much power they can put out. So, when I listened to my system without the sub/amp, the only thing I determined was that the sub/amp provided satisfactory bass in the Audiophile system. Hopefully, this unit will also give the Alpine door speakers just enough power to make a noticeable difference. If not, then guess what, I gotta pony-up for a stronger amp(s) and while I'm at it, a new sub. It doesn't end, Marvyn!

Alas, ii never stops! I haven't done a lot to my Trac since ordering it and waiting so anxiously for it to arrive. That excitement is what I have enjoyed since day one, and when it is paid for next march. I am already thinking about wheels for the 01, and a few things more before I seriously consider getting that sweet looking 07 or 08 ST. But the 01:wub: stays with me befause it was an original.

Mmarvyn, looks like I'm gonna have to upgrade the amp and sub as well. Given the effort into the whole thing I might as well go for broke. Can't wait to have it all set up. With the Adrenalin headunit I still keep the 6 disc capability plus MP3. Best part is the interior will still look OEM which is my biggest concern. Sorry I won't be able to test just with upgraded speakers.
