I will be putting in a Sony headunit soon. I also wanted to replace the factory sub with a Sony Xplod sub with an Xplod amp. Will I be able to use the factory sub box? If so, what size is the factory one. I want to go the cheapest route I can. I am just sick of all the treble and no bass. Thanks alot.

in the none Adrenalin ST's it's supposed to be an 8" inch speaker, but it's actually smaller than that.... The factory sub box will not work nicely with anything other then a factory sub and well, that's not up to par with the bass. Best bet would be to get a C.Wells 8" or 10" under the seat speaker box and a woofer like a Kicker Comp.. E-bay has some similar set ups for like $150 for box and speaker, around the $225+ including an amp.

as for the Sony's, I used to have some but they are somewhat on the lower end (at least anything not from their Specialty Series) and they might not be up to par with your bass taste (I needed more bass about 3 months in, got rid of them and got me some Fosgates P-1's. They are starter level Fosgates but they beat the heck out of my old Sony's), so if you want to go with Sony's at least try out the SPECIALTY SERIES and not the Wal-Mart $50 bucks Sony woofers.

Then again it's just IMO, but one thing for sure anything other then the factory sub will out bass the stock set up.

Hey, there really isnt a way to put a different sub in the factory box...It's like a 6 inch sub, so that already limits what you can do, as very few companies make a 6 inch. Plus, i dont really see how you could get the sub out of the box. Ford encased it right in there. If you wanna just get a little more low end, get either an 8 or 10. you can use the C. Wells boxes-hes a member from this site, and they will either fit behind or underneath the seat, while keeping full functionality. ANY upgraded sub will destroy the factory, so youll be very pleased.

Hope this helps

Andy

the C-Wells box info for both the 8 and 10 is here in this site, do a search.

as I indicated earlier, check e-bay. Search under Sport Trac and you'll see them pop up for the set ups.

Probox also sells a box as well, but it's in the $100 range for the box it self.

There are two basic styles (behind the rear seat and under the seat with some variations such as down fire, upfire, single/duel woofers, ported and sealed. The behind the seat setup requires you to take out the stock ST woofer/amp set up (info on how to remove the factory sub set up can be found here in this site by doing a search) and then there's the under the back seat set up which is just a slide under the seat type.

It's up to you what you want.....it seems to be the consensus that an 8" sounds better behind the seats than a 10" and the 10" sounds better under the seat. But hey it's just an opinion and up to you what you want

If you want good bass, dont go with sony. There are plenty of other options that are still low priced that will give you far better bass.

I was very pleased with the 8" bazooka tube. I got the one that has the amp built in. Very simple install and id fits neatly under the right side back seat. The sound is also very impressive, I barely have mine turned up. Good Luck.

I don't really want to spend anymore money than need be. This is just a winter car. I got it because my 13 second Focus doesn't do good in snow. Sony is okay for the most part. A friend has some in their car and it hits good. I guess I'll look around. Thanks.

My setup is pretty inexpensive for a GREAT sounding system.

Sony CDX-F7715X w/aux inputs (allows direct RCA connect for MP3 player) - $269 (lowered now)

Polk DB-570 door speakers - $100 (recommend only fronts unless you regularly have people in back)

Audiobahn 200watt single channel amp for sub - $129 w/free install at Circuit City

California 50wx4 amp for door speakers (yes, i do have all 4 speakers) - $65 from ebay

C Wells 8" behind the seat box w/RF 8" 200watt sub - $70 from ebay

Total $603

Installed it all over a year ago and sounds awesome, no probs. If going Sony just stick to their higher end head units and go w/other subs like the other people have mentioned. Lower end Sony

HUs aren't that great, but big diff when you step up. Pioneers seem to have the better reps, also Alpine and Kenwood.
