front porch ideas

Give me some ideas- we just built and moved into our new house. I have a front concrete stoop (7ft wide and 32ft long) in front of our bow window. We don't have a roof overhang over the stoop (poor planning I guess). How can I make it look good? Just a railing or should we eventually build onto the roof to make an overhang? Ideas?

Covering all or part of it with a roof is not a terrible big job. It would provide some protection from the weather. As far as a railing, you may have to check with the building office in your town regarding the height of the stoop. In my case, more than 22" above grade requires a railing. Plan on starting it on Friday after 4pm and finish it before 8am Monday. If anybody asks, tell 'em thats the way you had it built! Good luck, BC

Is actually a book called the porch, on older style homes the porch has to have an overhang.

Period railing,T&G 3 inch pine or fir flooring, painted battleship grey.
