So here's my question;

I bought an '07 ST V8 Ltd two years ago. I don't think I paid a gas guzzler tax. I think the MPG rating was between 14 an 20.

I bought an 08' GT500 a few weeks ago. I paid a $1300 gas guzzler tax. The know the MPG rating was between 14 and 20.

Someone may want to research and check my ST numbers.

If my numbers are correct, this is a knee jerk, government screw job, right? :angry:

Didn't realize the "tax" didn't apply to trucks & suv's. That's real B.S. Caymen's right. How in the world did some government "official" figure an SUV or PickUp Truck should be exempt?

My ST has/will have more miles than the 500, always.

Kane; here's a few pics as received. Have added tint and Bassani's at the moment, but I need a nice weather day to get some really good pics.:D

Mainly because trucks are often used in business and are ESSENTIAL to that business. It just benefits the folks that don't need it but want a truck (or SUV built on a truck frame).

:eek::eek::eek: Sorry I had to wipe up the drool coming out of my mouth!! Nice car. Anyone seen the reports of the new Shelby GT500KR?? Car looks awesome w/ more ponies. :wub::wub: 1 song comes to mind, "king of the road"

This is crap, IMHO.

It goes back to a debate that was had here a couple of years ago. Another member and I got into this whole notion of who actually NEEDS their ST, or their SUV. The notion of the other member is that some out there are driving up the cost of fuel because they are using fuel they don't NEED to, driving large SUVs the don't NEED.

The rationale that trucks are exempt from this tax because people NEED trucks to do their work part of that same idea. There are countless people who drive pickups simply as a passenger vehicle...they don't NEED a pickup.

Also, are RV vechicles, quads, boats, jet skis, etc, required to pay this tax? No one NEEDS those things.

What about plastic products? CDs, DVDs, etc. These products are all petro based and no one NEEDS them.

Once our govt starts passing laws to pick/choose consumption then we are all screwed.

Andy, there is a "King of the Road version of the Cobra coming soon. The NBC TV movie (and upcoming show) Knight Rider was based on it.

Roger, I am aware of it. i read an article in a mag a week or 2 ago. Can't remember which one. All i know is if I had the money, i'd buy one the 1st day I could. But when you're in your 20's with 2 babies, new house, ST payments, you can't get one. Someday!!

Roger;

KR version has been out and is essentially the same car with a tune and a smaller Blower drive pulley to increase the boost. Net result is 600+ HP. The Super Snake has some more stuff, gets it up to 700-750 HP.

Bill, I know it weighs more than it should, but then again, most of us over thirty five do ..... course if I wanted a race car I would of bought one, but then it wouldn't be a daily driver. You see, here in western NC, I need the power to drive up the Blue Ridge Mountains:rolleyes:

Oh, and back on topic, this thing has a Ford Triton V-8 (Pick-Up Truck) engine block, so it should be exempt from the guzzler tax, right?:angry:
