Gen 1 sunroof

I have a question about the sunroof on my 2004 ST. I’ve never been able to open it up, that is to say, slide back into the roof, it only lifts up the back portion. I’ve seen pix of Gen 1 tracs with the roof fully open, so does it retract back into the roof or only rise in the rear part?

IF its oem, it slides back too.... could be the switch, motor or something else.... did you try holding the switch the other way ?

Yes it is OEM, I tried everything I ca think of. I guess my next move will be to drop the headliner and see if it’s obstructed. Thanks Todd Z for your input.

If it’s not attempting at all to move back then it’s either the motor or it could be out of sync. Very unlikely it’s obstructed if it’s not moving at all, rearward that is. First it should drop down, then start to move back. Try a search for syncing or initialization. It may even be in the manual back in those days. I believe the motor is above the roof console. If so you can get access to it and there should be a torx hole in the motor that you can use to manually open/close it. It will turn hard. Or remove the motor and see if it works by itself but it may end up out of sync.
