I got my Trac back from the local Ford dealership today. I turned her in after I noticed a descrete flare in rev when changing gears at low rpms (~1500-2000rpm/~10-15mph). It didn't do it all the time, I think it happened three times on two seperate days. But I did not hesitate to take the ST to the dealership as soon as I got the chance. Job description is as follows:
CHECK AND FOUND EPC PORT PRESSURE ERRATIC IN 3RD GEAR
ROAD TEST AND VERIFY CONCERN
REMOVED DRIVE SHAFT AND LUBE THE SLIP YOKE WITH GREASE
ROAD TEST NO MORE CLONCKING NOISE
Qty 4...XT-5-QM....Fluid - Transm
Qty 1...XL2Z-7G383-AA...Solenoid Asy
Qty 1...F5TZ-7A191-A...Gasket
I never mentioned a "cloncking" noise but anyway, I don't know whether they serviced the solenoid or replaced it altogether, and it looks like they dropped the pan and replaced some fluid. I was hoping they flushed it, but I'm told elsewhere that it would've taken more than a 'quantiy of 4' (4-qts) of tranny fluid for a flush. I may go back and and have it flushed.
I decided to mention the 'ol steering shudder issue that I now experience very rarely, and unlike another dealership that couldn't duplicate or find a problem, this one recognized a p/s oil leak from a pressure hose o-ring and replaced the o-ring. I don't know if this actually fixes the problem, but it's nice to see something was done about the concern.
Overall experience with the dealership was very good. I was not charged a penny. Service advisor was courteous and took care of me. He even had a shuttle pick me up to get my Sport Trac, after I told him I didn't have a ride there this day.
I did find a 5" scratch on the rear bumper and it slightly catches the finger-nail. I informed the advisor and he immediately took me to the dealership's body shop. There I was told they will buff it and if necessary, repaint it. Since I was there I also mentioned the "dimples" on the lower tailgate panel. He said this was normal but if I wanted they'll replace it as it can't make it any worse!
On a side note, on the shuttle ride to the dealership I met a passenger that also owned a Sport Trac. We carried a good conversation about our beloved Tracs and I referred him to our beloved site. I hope he introduces himself here in the near future.
