Guitar painting/finishing question

I have a butterscotch blonde Squier Telecaster that I want to repaint (body only). I'm not sure what color yet, but I was thinking maybe the same colorshifting paint as my interior on my truck along with some airbrush designs. But, I was curious, is there any special methods, materials or anything specific I have to do? Is there any risk of changing the instrument's tone or sound depending on how I paint/refinish even though it's a solid body electric?

I custom painted one a while back, The local guitar place told me to remove the electronics 100% and use a special clear, other then that no problems. I also did the body only....

Thanks Todd. Now I just have to figure out how I want it to look. Can you tell me anything about this special cleaner?

not special cleaner, special clear......



I used a regular paint stripper and sanded it, then primed it and painted...



Clear coat paint.... I remember it being special for electronics and wood...
