Sometime back there was a request for information about lock boxes for handguns that could be used in vehicles. Found this one today in Gander Mountain for $99.00. Would bolt in nicely anywhere and has easy quick key-less access.

If I was burglerizing a vehicle, that box would be the first thing I would take.

I think a better and cheaper solution would be to put one of those combination Bike locking cables through the trigger guard and an Eye-bolt bolted to the body of the vehicle in some hidden location or perhaps replacing something like a seat track bolt or bolted to the floor under the compartment under the console. It would provide better security than just the plain gun safe, and the same level of security as that $100 box with a security cable for about $10.

I have a box that uses a cable that you string around something like your seat brackets.Cost is around 40 bucks.

No matter what it is, if the bad guys want it, they are going to take it. Even the best box will only slow them down.

I don't have anything in my vehicle and don't want one. I just posted it because someone asked some time back. It's set up to through bolt, so it would be hard to "quickly" remove if properly mounted. It is quick access with a touch of the hand. I think it is actually made for the home.

the only reason I have a lock box in my vehicle is because some business owners think that a "no guns" sign on the door will keep the bad guys from bringing guns into their place of business.

Of course, the only guys that respect signs like that are the good guys because, well, we are the good guys and abide by the law.

It was me some time ago..

I did get one something like you posted.

I needed it for legal reasons more than anything else.

Though my weapon is on me in all cases I am working and going to and from work, there were times I didn't want/need it on me.

The safe was required per my agencies policy or it MUST be on me or in my home safe.

Coastiejoe,

Is your weapon government issued, or your own personal weapon?

In Texas it is legal to carry a loaded gun in your car even if you do not have a Concealed Handgun License.....just as long as the gun is not on your person or visible to anyone. It can be in an unlocked glove box, console or laying on the seat with a newspaper over it, just as long as it is not visible to anyone. That's a fairly recent law.

In Texas there are only two legal signs that can prevent you from bringing a handgun into a business. One is an official state issued sign from the state of Texas, and the other is a "51%" sign which indicates that 51% or more of that businesses revenue comes from the sale of alcohol....The 51% sign applies to all bars and many restaurants.

Years ago, if the proprieter of the business did not want anyone to carry a handgun into his business he could just put up a sign that said no handguns. Now they cannot object unless they apply and are approved for an official state "No handguns" sign. I don't know what the reasons or requirements are to be approved for that sign?

Fed Issued.

I am exempt from all of those no guns allowed signs and laws....

The one place that I do let them know I am carrying is the VA hospital as there has been some issues with Vets bringing guns to the hospital.

Being a Vet myself, I have medical reasons to go there....

Coastiejoe,

Being that it is Gov. Issued weapon, I can understand their wanting to prevent it from being stolen. I am sure that before the lock box requirement, they had weapons stolen out of vehicles...people are often very careless with other peoples property.

If you are exempt from complying all the "No Handgun" laws, why would you need to have a lock box in your vehicle? It sounds like you would not have too many reason to leave the gun in the vehicle except just not wanting to lug it around all the time... How does that apply in foreign countries, rental cars, or leaving the gun in a hotel room? Also, are you exempt from foreign concealed handgun laws?

Times like going into water parks or if I am playing in a ball game and things to this nature.

When I am off duty and local to where I live I normally do not have it on me unless I am going to or from my "office." LOL

I generally never go to other states and NEVER fly without it no matter if I am working or on personal flights.

Kevin,

I understand about going to water parks and participating in ball games...I know they can be a real PITA at other times too.

I have a Texas Concealed Handgun License, two guns, and now I rarely carry any with me, or even in my car??? Concealing a weapon in 105 degree heat is more than a PITA. Maybe when things cool off a bit and I can wear a jacket it will be more comfortable...LOL

You did not reply about how you deal with your weapon in foreign countries when you travel there? That may depend on if you are on a quick return flight and never leave the airport. 'm there are times when you stay over night and need to take a taxi to the hotel, or go out to dinner, etc? If you are not allowed to reveal that info, I understand...just curious.
