I have an opportunity to buy some brick that was made in my hometown from before I was born that I'm going to use to build a bbq patio. My question is, how many standard size bricks can I haul in my 2002 Sport Trac? I was told I will need around 650 bricks for a 10x12 patio. I will be traveling about 250 miles round trip and hope I can do it in one trip.

Thanks for the help,

Lomey

A pallet of brick weighs about 2000 lb. 48" x 40" of stacked brick.

I carried a 1/2 pallet in the ST. I had to hand stack them to spread out the load, getting most of the weight in front of the axle. Easiest just to get a trailer.

I don't know how much these bricks weight but I would guess about 4-5 lbs each if they are solid bricks (no holes) While you may be able to put all 650 bricks in your bed, it would certainly be way over weight. Your truck can probably carry that much weight but your brakes may not be able to stop with that much weight in the back.

If I was driving 250 miles to get them, I would be sure to bring a trailer rated for at least 3000 lbs

I agree with the others, If it were only 10 or 15 miles, you might load her up and just take it easy, (I know I have a few times) but 250 miles, I say rent a trailer. Locally to me I can rent one for a day for around $40.00. Cheap insurance over damage to suspension, or the composite bed.

Just for you Bob,,, sorry,,, just had to

Fill it up...these things are quite sturdy!

The trac might have a lower load rating than is possible.

But I agree with Rich, about the braking issue. Too much can go wrong.

well... if a brick weighs 5 lbs that would be about 3250lbs of brick for 650 bricks so i would get a trailer or you will risk messing up your suspention really bad
