Hey guys, I'm headin up to the Biltmore (One of the nation's largest castle with a winery if you didn't know) this weekend and wondered if anyone had any advice, or suggestions on what to do. I know there's the estate tour and a golf course, already plannin on those. Anything else worth checkin out up there? Anyone been? Gimmie some feedback. Thanks!

I loved that place. It's hard to comprehend the actual size of everything, it's that large!

If I could, I would have done the behind the scenes tour instead of the regular tour. It's more expensive but you get to see a lot more of the 'house'. I thought the winery was a little boring, mainly because I don't drink but my wife enjoyed it.

Have a great time and I hope the weather is nice!

It's been years since I was there. I do remember the place just being amazing to me. I know the whole complex has grown, but I don't know to what extent. Actually, I guess this was a completely useless reply.[Broken External Image]:

I would say to give me a call when you come through Chattown, but I will be working all weekend...maybe next time.

Second the behind the scenes tour.

You get more of a feel that that place was on the cutting edge at the time it was built, i.e. 'air' conditioning, plumbing, bowling alley, pool, etc.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll upgrade to the "behind the scenes tour package". I can't wait to get up there. I've heard so many good things about it. Plus I just can't wait to get the Trac on some of those scenic roads up there, gotta love the Carolinas...

Make sure you rent the headphones so you can learn more about the house as you tour it. The wife and I went there in April and stayed on the Estate. Cost us about as much a a cruise for a week would have cost us for one weekend, but it was so worth it. The winery was pretty good as well. Enjoy the tastings! The restaurant at the Inn on Biltmore Estate was really good as well. They have great breakfast and the meals for dinner are great too. All thuer beef and veggies are right from the estate itself. They are trying to be self sufficient.

A1, good suggestion, I forgot about the headphones. My wife and I ate at the restaurant in the old horse stalls. The food was very good. I believe originally the 'house' was meant to be completely self sufficient and it was awesome to see/hear how the created all of the plantings on site as well.

Brings back good memories of the trip, thanks griff!

Well...dang it...now I'm going to have to plan a weekend over there too. It does sound like a nice way to spend a couple days.

If you don't live too far away and think there is a remote chane of coming back, upgrade to a season pass after you buy tickets and are ready to leave. The estate grounds really are great in spring when all the flowers are in bloom and the interior is really different when decorated for Christmas. In the main dinnng room they usually have a 2 story Christmas tree that reaches the balcony.

Also depending on where you come in from, avoid the I-26 / I-40 junction around 4-6 pm. We call it "Malfunction Junction" around here.

Hope you have a great time:D
