I'm still considering Prescott AZ for our relocation this spring but I have a question. Are there any trees, flowers, plants, grass, greenery of any kind? Might sound like a stupid question but I really don't remember what Arizona looks like. Thanks a lot;)

 no it's not all dirt and cactus, there are pine trees here and other trees as well, I personally have 2 pine trees in my yards. All kinds of flowers, Grass grows here too. It's not all dirt and cactus :) It's beautiful country for sure!

Lots of snakes, tarantulas, scorpions. I walked up on a havalena one night while walking home from work, one snort and I truly believe I could have won an olympic medal for the sprint. :D

We loved AZ and have thought of settling there.

flagstaff has the largest ponderosa pine forest in the world as well, which is about a 2 hour drive from prescott. arizona also has 2 ski resorts and they would open this year if we ever got any snow, this year has been really dry, which means alot of fires this year.

then there is this little thing called .... a vinargeroo

kinda looks like a scorp ususally lighter in color or even an orange/reddish color...

muvh smaller than a scorp but I have seen some that are in size like 3"

wow do they move fast.

I was born in Winslow and after moving away at age 2 I spent every summer there untill I was 16. There are beautiful mountains with cold rushing rivers and quiet lakes. I have seen it snow in Arizona in the summer. There is also hot desert sands with huge rock formations. There is also Lake Powell which was formed by daming up the Colorado river. And of course The grand canyon. One of the indian tribes which own land on the south rim just completed a walkway thad circles out from the edge where you can look straight down to the canyon floor. They are also adding a resturant and then a motel. In my opinion it is the most beautiful state in America.:)

Arizona has some of the most widely varied climate zones of any state in country. You can go from hot arid desert to dense cool pine forests in a few hours drive.

And of course, it has the Grand Canyon!

Uncle Bob,

give 'em a break - it's pronounced with an H. The vinegaroon in also referred to as a whip scorpion. Scared the crap outta me first time I saw a four incher run through the living room.

Do you have potato bugs there too? That one just intrigued me. Kinda strange.

I have been to the Scottsdale area and there are lush golf course, tree lined steets, etc. Some people will landscape their homes with gravel, and catus but it's not a requirement.

In fact I heard that there are neighborhoods in Phoenix that require that you plant and maintain a lawn in front of your hous, or at least some portion of your front yard must be grass.

As with most hot dry climates, trees do not grow very tall (except palm trees) but some varieties of trees do grow well, especially if watered regularly. The only drawback to having greenery in the desert areas is a lack of natural rain water, so you must provide some form of irrigation, and water may be a bit pricey.
