Thanks for the replies. This may sound funny but after researching scorpions, vinegaroons, javelinas & possibly potato bugs, The female members of my family are having second thoughts.:D

Growing up in Kansas maybe we're just not tough enough for Arizona.

I really appreciate the info--without you guys helping out we wouldn't know any of this stuff.

Oh, I know the chance of encountering one of these gems is probably rare, but my Wife & Daughter was still freaked out:D

Heck, I found an honest to god black widow spider in my garage last year & those things are mucho dangerous----I didnt move because of that.

Hmmmm wonder what wonders there are up in Northern Cali?

I know for a fact that there are Black Widows on the Monterey Peninsula on the central coast of Cal. as I have seem them at my vacation home there. No javelinas though, and I haven't seen any scorpions but I wouldn't role those out. :D

I lived in flag and didn't have any problems with the bugs. But the winter was terrible. When it snows it is bad!! But other than that it is great!

I grew up in the desert of West Texas...to me mountains, dirt, cactus, no trees, no grass is heaven.

I have spent the last 2 years in Kansas City and just moved to South Bend...and I just want to scream my head off during the winter.

I will NEVER use an air conditioner until the temp gets above 95....GIVE ME THE HEAT!!!!

Do you have potato bugs there too?

What is a potato bug? Live around potatos ??

Cactus Wren are cool oh and also the road runners

We do have coyotes too  Never saw an Acme company here though, but I'm sure it exists.

Tonka tell her it's really not that bad, we were messin around :) and I am female and also have a daughter and all is well. Just spray outside the house and inside once a year and "the girls" will be fine, not often do the spiders and varments wander in a house.

As for Javelina, they keep far out in the wilderness and prefer not to be around humans if possible :)

It's really a nice state, she/they will love it so much to seeeeee :)

I had two projects that kept me commuting to Phoenix for 7 years. My client had a second office in Prescott and a good friend was attending Embry Riddle Aeronutical University there. While it is a slower pace than Phoenix, its a good 20 degrees cooler. Conrads pic is says a lot but I also remember a lot more pine trees. Kind of reminded me of Sierra foothills. Downtown Prescott has a small town center and the quickest description I can think of is like "Hill Valley" in the movie "Back to the Future 1". I think its a nice town an like GM says a nice state. Spring in AZ is unbelievable. If you need more city life or shopping beyond Target, Home Depot, Bed and Bath, Phoenix is only a couple hours away. No one I know in Phoenix thinks scorpions are a big deal (i'm personally scared as heck of them) nor do they see them a lot but Phoenix is more developed while Prescott is more natural. Then again, Prescott is a different habitat too. We have potato bugs here in Sonoma County that takes some effort for me to supress screaming and running away in shame but there's almost always some revolting critter anywhere you go. Fortunately scorpions dont like people either.

GM, lots see huh. Like critters, scorpions, little pigs that look like wild boars, etc etc.

You know, those kinds of things...

Just kidding...

I fly over the state normally once a week or so. From the air I can tell you there are very brown and barren places as well as very nice green areas too.

Heck, I have even seen buildings there...
