It's a puppet! His right hand holding the staff is a fake hand. Near the end, he takes his hand out of the puppet and grabs the staff while it's behind him as he is turned sideways. That's when he drops the staff and is manipulating the puppet with his right hand again and the fake arm is hidden inside the puppet.



Very good illusion though. The tip-off is that the puppet's expression never changes.
