I agree that it is very thought provoking, but is she telling the truth? She has no evidence. The document which she claims as a lesson plan from a US public school is not proof. Anyone can make such a document....I would expect to have teachers complaining about having to teach such classes in our schools?

When I went to school we only briefly discussed other religions as part of studying the various countries but never got into their religious doctrines. I don't think that is appropriate to be taught in any of our schools unless you go on to college and take a class in Islamic studies, unless part of a Theology degree, or political science studies to compare religions followings. Even college level classes may be too early for some students who may be easily influenced.

When Christian children or teachers cannot pray or reference God or Jesus in our classrooms, we certainly should not be teaching Islamic religious beliefs in our schools.

Rich,

The last 2 public elementry schools my ex taught at. They were presented with some material as such. They had meetings about it. It was never put into practice.

She teaches private school now.

My great niece, came home one day. Telling her mother about the 5 pillars of islam. How they started studying, islam. She is 2cnd grade. I dont know to what depth. But it cased an uproar with parents. Including those not christian. I havent asked my neice if they stoped it.

I know the principal of the elementry where I went. Not personaly, but I know who he is. Graduate 3yrs before me, same hi-school. My sister knows him because of volunter work. Also a cousin that sectretaries there. The district sent him boxes muslim islam material. They gave him no specific instrutions. Other than what grade to pass it out to. So he put it all in the back of storage.

Im a Christian, but. I agree public school is not for any religous study. Nor should they stop any teacher or student from practicing or speaking on their personal faith. As long as they are not doing it to educate others.

I was a school teacher before I became a nurse. I used to teach the facts of different religions as a part of history lessons. There's a big, discernible difference between teaching religion and teaching about religion. It's pretty hard to teach about the Middle East or Asia without mentioning the founding religions.

There's nothing wrong with a kid learning about the beliefs of others. Knowledge helps to avoid misinformation and hatred. I'd rather have my seven year old coming home from school to explain what Muslims believe than having her call them stinking towelheads based on what Uncle Bob told her.
