I didn't know Beta 3 was out yet. I am using Beta 2 and it works just fine. No issues at all, but I still prefer Firefox, because of the gadgets and the faster browsing. IE 7 just seems slow in comparison.

I have been using IE7 since beta 2 came out and it is excellent. Beta 2 was a little buggy but 3 seems 100% better. It is faster and just about all websites look like they are supposed to. The tabbed browsing is excellent and once you use it you are not going to want to go back.

When you install DO NOT uninstall IE6 because if you don't like 7 you can always uninstall it and go back to 6. Some websites have issues with streaming media but I haven't had a chance to look into this yet. It's not a big enough problem for me.

I say go for it and if you don't like it just remove.

Big D, I agree. I downloaded it and it really is nice. ALOT cleaner looking than IE6 and the tab option is really nice. It will still take some getting used to where all the buttons are and what they are for. Thanks for the advice everyone.;)

I've been using Firefox for quite awhile now and really like it. It's had the tabbed browsing for a long time. May have to try the new ie just to see what it has to offer.

LaRue, did you download the right one? There is one specifically for Windows XP SP2 and then there are ones for the other versions of windows. Of course I think you have to "Varify your windows" before you download so if it is letting you download, I'm not sure what could be going on. It loaded fine on mine and replaced the desktop icon with a nicer looking one than the old basic one.

TJR, I noticed that also. Not a selling point to me. Still like the over-all look of it. Much more modern look to it. I didn't think it would be that big of a difference, but it really surprised me how much I like it better.Just take some time getting used to it. Although, I have a 5 button mouse at home that is set up with "forward" and "back" buttons on the side. I just use them.

I am really likeing the "tab" function of it. Nice to be able to flip from one page to the other, without having to use the forward/back buttons.;)

Yep, it tells me there is something wrong when it tries to write to the registry. And I way toooo much stuff to loose if I hack the wrong thing...

I got ya. I hate messing with the registry. I used to, but now I run CCleaner every once in a while to get rid of the stuff from programs I know I've removed. Do you have a program that could be blocking it? I know Microsoft's Spyblocker used to block (it would notify you though) anything trying to alter your registry.;)

I've even tried to load in safe mode under admin,, still no go,, no software running, turned of antivirus and ms defender

Even though it didnt install properly look to see if it is in your add/remove program list and uninstall it there if it is listed.

I would say something is still running not allowing it to write to the registery.

Internet Explorer 7 could not be installed. You must restart your system to confirm that any changes to your system are undone.

After restarting, follow the "Internet Explorer Troubleshooting" shortcut on your desktop to get more information.

Method 2

1. Determine if there is a problem that is preventing the registry from being updated:

a. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\ie7beta3.log, and then click OK to open the Ie7beta3.log file.

Note By default, the Ie7beta3.log file is located in the C:\Windows folder.

b. Press CTRL+END to move to the end of the Ie7beta3.log file.

c. On the Edit menu, click Find.

d. In the Find what box, type IECUSTOM: Key is still unwriteable.

e. Under Direction, click Up, and then click Find Next.

If you find the "Key is still unwriteable" text, this indicates that there is a problem that is preventing the registry from being updated. For example, text that resembles the following in the log file indicates that there is a problem:

time_stamp: IECUSTOM: Key is still unwriteable registry_subkey

In this example, registry_subkey is the name of the registry subkey that is causing the problem.

If you do not find the "Key is still unwriteable" text in the Ie7beta3.log file, go to Method 2 for additional troubleshooting steps.

2. Reset the registry permissions for the registry subkey that has the incorrect permissions. To update the permissions of the registry subkey, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

b. Locate and then right-click each registry subkey that you noted in step 1e, and then click Permissions on the Edit menu..

Note The Ie7beta3.log file contains the following abbreviations:

• HKCR = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

• HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

• HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER

c. Under Group or user names, click Administrators.

d. Under Permissions for Administrators, make sure that the Allow check box is selected for the following entries:

• Full Control

• Read

Make sure that the Deny check box is not selected for any users or groups.

For more information about how to modify the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

310426 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310426/) How to use the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Registry Editor features

e. Click Apply, and then click OK.

f. On the File menu, click Exit.

g. Try to install Internet Explorer 7 again. You may have to repeat these steps if there are other keys that have permissions that prevent Internet Explorer 7 from installing.

Looks like more of a headache then it is worth. Have you tried logging in as admin and doing it?

I didnt see anything helpful in microsofts forums.
